Will BaseCamp Be Upgraded To 64-bit?

Apple has been warning people that the next MacOS after High Sierra (v10.13.x) will no longer run 32-bit programs. In fact, Apple has stopped accepting 32-bit programs for sale in the App Store. After High Sierra the MacOS will only run 64-bit programs. This has been coming for a long time so it's not as if Apple is springing this on people. But BaseCamp (v4.6.3) is a 32-bit program. That means it won't run on future versions of the MacOS.

I've done an online search but I can't find anything from Garmin about getting a 64-bit release of BaseCamp or some new program to take BaseCamp's place that is natively 64-bit. Has anyone on this forum heard anything?

I like BaseCamp. I use it weekly if not more often than that and I'd hate to lose it. I suppose I could keep High Sierra on an external drive or a partition of my internal drive along with the 32-bit BaseCamp but that's a hassle having to reboot to the other drive just to use one program. Garmin is abandoning Garmin Adventues and Cloud Service in May of 2018 a service I've used extensively to post my Adventures for friends to follow and use. I sure hope Garmin isn't abandoning BaseCamp, too.

Re dreamhx's post - Basecamp (and any other suporting software) running on the current Mac and operating system is a key prereq for my choice of of a SatNav device. The computers software is more important than the limitations of the SatNav supporting software, so please Mr Garmin give us a firm committment with dates as to when the 64bit version of Basecamp will be available.
  • on Mojave menu started already to be light grey. i think soon it will definitely stop to work
  • Well, what is going on with this? Mohave is around the corner and not a peep out of Garmin.

After "upgrading" to Mac 10.13 High Sierra, maps printed through the Basecamp print dialog no longer have labels on them. No names of lakes, rivers, land use designation - na da. Tracks and waypoints show OK. I assume this is a 32bit/64bit issue. Has anyone else noticed this problem and has anyone else used a method to run Basecamp as a 32bit app on High Sierra?
Any suggestions would be appreciated - I would hate to lose Basecamp.
    Are there alternatives to Basecamp?
  • From posts in the BaseCamp PC forum this is more likely due to the BaseCamp update.

No, Garmin say they'll convert to 64 bit 'later this year'. See the link posted above.

Hm, it seems like Garmin does not support Basecamp anymore. I think there will never be a 64-bits version for Mac as promised by Garmin earlier. Does anyone know more about Basecamp?? Please Garmin the software is great so keep on supporting it.
  • Being discussed here. Applies to the Mac version as well

Thanks seilogramp for the link. So Basecamp is end of life..... :(
  • So, what happens when it stops running on future Mac OS? This is BS. Currently, the Garmin Alpha is the top of the line and only touchscreen GPS option for dog tracking and training. I understand it doesn't have bluetooth so won't work with Explorer. BaseCamp is not a great app in the first place. It barely klutzes along to accomplish its purpose. I was counting on an updated version addressing UX issues and supporting 64 bit. What a let down. I feel like Garmin makes awesome hardware and employs clowns to write the software.
