Basecamp routes transfer but will not upload in Nuvi 1490

I built routes in trip planner in Basecamp and then exported/transferred them to my Nuvi 1490. I went to My Data, Import Routes on the Nuvi and selected the route to import so it would show up to be selected for driving. I got an error that two many routes were selected (1). I checked the memory available and there is 1.58gb on the internal device memory and 11gb on the SD card so memory shouldn't be a problem. Each route is not more than a couple of hundred MBs. I have done this in the past with other routes and it has worked fine so I am at a loss. I'm on a MAC Air which I have used before. I used Finder to look at the files on each device and they are there but they won't import for use. In Basemap, when I click on Nuvi Maps, the routes show up and when I click on SD Card Maps, they some show up there. I've searched the net and find no help. Not sure what to do from here. On another point, when I go to My Date and Import Routes there are multiple inputs there of the same routes because I couldn't find them initially and exported/transferred a couple of times. I would like to eliminate the extras, but see no way to do so either in Basecamp, Garmin Express or in Finder since the routes don't seem to be separate inputs. Help. Thanks.

Sussamb, you may have identified the problem, 10 routes max. I have three 3 day trips imported and I'm assuming that each day is considered a single route. I have one additional route imported which would make 10 routes. If that is the problem you would think the error would be that I had maxed my routes, not the error I'm getting. I'm going to remove one of the trips from being imported but before I do, will that trip remain on the device but just not usable until I import it again? Can I keep as many routes on the device/card and just not import them until I'm ready to use them? Also, to a previous question, does a backup in Garmin Express completely rewrite the previous backup with the new backup, or does it just modify the previous backup with new information?

39_Steps. I opened the Current.gpx file (only .gpx remaining) in Text Editor and searched for "route". I selected "next" to see all routes and it appears that each of my routes has data separate from the others and that the data is not combined in a mega file. File is a little hard to read so I didn't check each point under each route, but am assuming that since each route is listed separately it is not a mega file. Thanks for the idea.
  • I think I answered the back up question, it's a full backup.

Routes stay on the device to re-import after you delete them as long as the gpx file containing them isn't deleted from your GPS. To be safe if you have routes you would always like available for import then rename the file sent there by BaseCamp to something more memorable so it's not overwritten at some later date by BaseCamp.

    Sussamb,

Problem is resolved. The issue was more than 10 imported routes. I deleted several routes that I had imported and then imported the one I wanted to and it worked. The error message that too many routes were selected for import was very misleading. Had it said too many routes already imported, it would have been pretty clear. I looked in the manual for the Nuvi 1490 and found no reference to the maximum number or routes, information that would have been nice to know.
I appreciate your help and your patience. Learned a lot.

I do have one final question. Having built trips/routes etc, is there a way in Basecamp to say reverse the trip/route without saying round trip up front.

    Thanks again
  • Yep. Right click the route and select the appropriate action.
