Problems transferring Trip Planner to nuvi or Drive Smart using Base Camp

Hey there. I'm stuck and looking for help.

I'm using Mac Base Camp v. 4.6.3 with a nuvi 2555LMT and a Drive Smart 50. Both devices are running latest firmware with a map of Europe installed via micro SD.

I created a plan successfully for an upcoming trip to Europe using Base Camp and Trip Planner. It covers 15 days with multiple stopovers and various waypoints. The way points are on both devices but having problems getting Trip Planner transferred over successfully.

A couple of basic assumptions. In the transfer process I'm selecting the device either the nuvi or drive Smart identified as the destination not the map cards. The device and the map card show up as options for each device. Should I select the applicable device connected or the cards. I'm also selecting routes and tracks as the options.

On both devices the transfers take only a few seconds to complete but when I disconnect from Base Camp and restart the devices and choose Trip Planner it takes 5-10 minutes to load on the Drive Smart 50. Everything there looks ok, but the date is one day off (sooner) for every day vs. what's on Base Camp. On the nevi 2555LMT the Trip Plan transfers comes over quickly but only shows the first day.

Any help and advice much appreciated.
  • Doesn't matter whether you choose the device or the card, there are advantages/disadvantages to both. Afraid I don't use Trip Planner in BaseCamp as I prefer to create individual routes, generally one for each day, and send them to my devices, so can't help you with the dates being out.

Thanks .. I was hoping I wouldn't have to redo it day by day. Strange that the Drive Smart is putting a date one day earlier than what is in Trip Planner on Base Camp. Could that be a bug?
  • Could be, or it could be an issue with the date set or setting on your device versus what's in BaseCamp. As I say I don't use Trip planner within BaseCamp, found it far too difficult :)

Thanks. I tried saving the trip to my map card which didn't help. Now is there a way to delete these files from there?
  • Yes, just delete them off the card. They will be in the GPX folder.

Thanks .. I got the those files deleted. I cleaned up the Route files that were in My Collection in Base Camp and successfully transferred the Routes over to the nuvi. A couple of issues though.

    1. I tried highlighting just the Routes that I wanted to transfer, but it picked up ALL the Routes that were listed in My Collection instead. Is there a way to save the old routes that I don't want transferred and just transfer the ones I want.

    2. Noticed that none of the departure times or durations that were on the routes were picked up and transferred? Also quite a few stops missed?

Any thoughts or suggestions on that .. or just something we have to live with. Thanks.
  • I don't have a Mac but with Windows certainly you can just send the routes you wish, and all points are sent. Perhaps someone with a Mac can answer your queries.

    1. Try creating a new List and placing only the routes you want to transfer in it, then send them to your GPS. I find I get much better results if I do the following, however: select ONLY the first route you want to transfer. Under File use Export Selected User Data to save a GPX file on your device or SD card (in the GPX folder). Repeat for each route. Then on your device import each route as needed. This gives you a lot more control over the entire process.

    2. Stops missed? Is this a glitch in Trip Planner? Like sussamb, I don't use it, preferring to import routes and navigate using them, not TP.

  • Just note a Drive will import routes automatically, you aren't able to "import each route as needed".

Thanks. I'm still playing around with this. Seem to have stumped Garmin Support who I spoke with this morning; They are going to do more research and try to simulate at their end using Mac BaseCamp and a DriveSmart 50 LMT.

The plan I created in BaseCamp using Trip Planner and transferred to my DriveSmart changes the date and start times when it's transferred to the Drive. The day is one day earlier and the times are 6 hours earlier. It must be something to do with the time zones but the device is showing the right time here.

I tried exporting the gpx file from Base Camp and inserting it manually into the device (same result). I also tried creating a smaller plan and with the same time discrepancy. The calendar date is consistently one day earlier than Base Camp and time is 6 hours earlier. I'm wondering if I changed the time zone on the computer used to create the plan in Base Camp to the time zone in Europe if that would make a difference. (edit: didn't make any difference .. going to go the try the individual gpx file route next).
