Named Trails Search not working

I bought the Topo Netherlands Pro map from Garmin. Now, I want to create trails based on existing Named Trails. However, searching for Named Trails does not work for me in Basecamp.

I installed the map on my Garmin device using Garmin Express.

I'm using Basecamp Version 4.6.3 on macOs Sierra (10.12.6). I perform the following action:

* select the TopoPro map in Basecamp
* click on the Find menu and select Find Options
* I enter the name of a trail and select the radio button "Named Trails"
* then I press the Search button

I get the message: Search not Supported. When I click the question mark behind the message. A pop-up is displayed saying: This map product does not support Named Trails search.

I really thought searching for Named Trails should work for this Topo Pro map.

Does anyone have a clue what could go wrong here?
  • You've been given the clue. That map doesn't support it.

Thank you for your reply, SUSSAMB. But that doesn't seem to be right? I bought the map from Garmin. The specs say:

"New ActiveRouting functionalities offer tailored and innovaive outdoor routing, named trail routing and optimized map layouts — perfect for easy tour planning."

If Named Trail search does not work, how can I use this ActiveRouting feature?

Have you tried changing the language character set to, perhaps, USA English?
  • As per my pm, try calling product support to see exactly what that statement means.

Where/how can I change the language character set?

My mistake, perhaps. I was thinking of device setup, not a computer app, and definitely not a Mac --before the first cup of coffee. However there still could be search engine issues resulting from different language conventions if the map does indeed include searchable trail vectors or points and is not just a raster image on Mac. Be sure to locate the center of the map trail to the center of the screen if searching with Basecamp.

I'ts been a while, but I found the solution:

The problem was with the type of map I bought: There are two versions of it: a Download version and a MicroSD version.

I bought the download version of Topo Pro map. That version does not support named trail search on my Etrex Touch. This is according to specs. However, the download version of the map does not support named-trail search on Basecamp either. This is by-design, but not according to specs. I e-mailed Garmin support with my findings and asked them if the micro-sd version of the map may be did not have this problem. They confirmed and sent me a micro-sd version of the map (the licence for the Download version was revoked). Now it works like a charm: I can perform named-trail search in basecamp and created routes from named trails. I can sent these routes to my Etrex Touch. Within the device, I can't perform named-trail search, but that is according to specs and no problem for me.
