Geotagging problem in High Sierra?

Not sure if it is a problem with High Sierra, but previously when on Sierra, I can have Basecamp geotag the photos I select and it will add the GPS information and the photos' file modified date/time will be updated to the date/time they are geotagged.
Now on High Sierra, when I successfully finished geotagging, it does not geotag the actual JPEGs I select and modified date/time remains unchanged. Instead, photos added to Basecamp collection get geotagged but not sure where they are stored on Mac.
I do not see any settings in Basecamp that allows me to geotag the original files I select so I am not sure if it is a problem with High Sierra. Anyone else has the same issue?

Update: Ok, I found the photos are stored in a GeotaggedPhotos folder in Application Support. But it used to just geotag the original photos. How can I make it geotag the original photos and not create geotagged copies?
