Garmin BC and SD card

Hello all. I am having a very frustrating time with BC and my Zumo 660. When I connect my 660 through its battery compartment usb socket to my Mac, it starts up and communicates with the Mac perfectly and appears to make a connection. When I start up BC, it begins to read the connected 660 and shows both the Garmim drive and Zumo SD card drives in the top left section of the programme, and begins to load the installed maps as I would expect. Unfortunately, after about a minute it ejects the two drives and the 660 reboots into normal unconnected mode. The Mac brings up a message saying that the two drives were ejected. It repeats this every time I try and connect the 660 to my Mac. I cannot find a reason for this nor remember when it started, but it might coincide with a map or BC update - not sure. It was working perfectly well three months ago.
I have used Garmin Express to check that everything is up to date, which it is.
I have taken the SD card out and connected it up as usual and currently, the 660 seems to be behaving, but why would the card suddenly start playing up and is there a solution to this? Should I format the card and try again, or is there something else that might be causing the 660 to eject the drives and stop the connection?
I am using a Mac running Sierra and Basecamp version is Version 4.6.3.
Thank you for your help.
