How do I make route that follows roads and trails in Basecamp?

I work as a tour guide and would like to use Basecamp to plan routes the follow both roads and trails. I have the basics, but my route planner won't follow the roadways or trails. Am I missing a specific map for this? I am using the Mac version of Basecamp and a Garmin 60csx GPS.
Any help would be appreciated.

Difficult to comment as you don't say what map you're using, but issues like this are invariably caused by the map. To get the route you want you should consider using direct activity.
