Extened route reroutes in a strange way

Looks to me like you're moving the end point rather than extending the route?

If you simply move the end point BaseCamp will recalculate. I don't have a mac but I believe to extend a route you hold the alt/option key and click on the route; the route tool will pick up from the end point and continue the route from there.

You are moving the last point (end point) and Basecamp is drawing a new route using the shortest distance (taking other preferences into account) from the prior point.

One can preserve the existing route by inserting a new point before the last point before moving the last point. That way, Basecamp will "extend" the route from the newly-inserted point when you move the end point.

Make sure the route tool is active. Bring up the route dialog box for the route you want to extend. You should now have a rubber band line starting at the last via in the list. Continue drawing the route.

OK, thanks for the replies, I think I'm starting to get it. I did download the newenglandriders manual earlier but it is not that precise and the tutorial needed US maps.
