BaseCamp no longer fit for purpose

I've first used MapSource since 2003. I've been using BaseCamp since it appeared. My impression is that the latest version is completely and utterly ruined.

They appear to have made it impossible for me to plan trips. This would make it unfit for purpose.

When I click on the "plan a route" icon (the two pins linked by a line), rather than getting a route-planning window into which I can place waypoints, the "List" disappears to be replaced by some moronic "Trip planner" asking for dates and whether I want to make a round trip and how many hours per day. This is of fractionally less use than a chocolate teapot. It doesn't reflect how I have ever used the software – I am not interested in having some algorithm try to plan a trip for me. I do not use BaseCamp to guess at what might be a road worth riding.

I know exactly where I want to go and create my waypoints accordingly. I simply need to put them in a route. Which BaseCamp now does not appear to do.

Or am I wrong?

How do I open open the actual route window into which I can place my waypoints?

If that's not possible, how do I get an older version of BaseCamp that actually works?

Or should I simply abandon BaseCamp in favour of MyRouteApp?
  • Why are you not simply using Edit > Create Route... Has been there from the very beginning and did not change.

Simply use waypoints from a List that you created in a List Folder, drag a bit on the route on the map and off you go.

There is no Edit > Create route option

The only options are > Create adventure (no) and > Create trip - which brings up the pointless bar but not the actual routes panel.

Hang on - I take it back. It's there just separate from the other > Create options

Thank you. You've solved my problem.

Doesn't explain why it was removed from the assistant button where it's always been, though. But at least there's a work-around.
