BaseCamp 4.6.3 Issues With MacOs 10.12 Sierra (wait for 10.12.2 release)

There is a known 10.12 issue with open street maps and BirdsEye imagery on BC 4.6.3 that is causing out-of-memory crashes. We have submitted a bug report to Apple, but have no estimate as to when the issue will be resolved.

If you use Birdseye imagery or some OSMs, then you may want to monitor BaseCamp memory consumption in Activity Monitor and periodically restart the app when you see memory approaching 3GB to avoid crashing. Zooming and panning with OSM and Birdseye generally result with memory growing until the app crashes.

Status updates will be posted to this thread.
  • OK, my problem was solved by deleting the BC that I downloaded from Mac App-store, and then installed the BC (same version) that I downloaded from Garmin.
  • BaseCamp 4.6.3 on MacOS 10.12.6 (AppStore) crashes while browsing maps.
It's sooooo annoying! I purchased new MacBook Pro 2016. Didn't restore MacOS but started from scratch. Installed newest BaseCamp from AppStore. Created BaseCamp backup on old Mac and restored it on new Mac. What else should I do to make this buggy software running stable finally?!

I'm planning long trip through mountains. It makes me crazy! Please help!
  • Try downloading directly from Garmin. The app store versions can cause issues.
  • I gave it a try... and not too long until:

    And so on....
  • If that didn't work you'll need to call Garmin Support so they can help troubleshoot your system.
  • I asked Garmin support for help... they said on their Mac it works. Advised to reinstall **iOS** on Mac. Don't believe they are competent at all...
Trying myself I have completely uninstalled all Garmin applications (using CleanMyMac to remove all other remains). Removed from Mac Library all Garmin connected folders (this includes the whole database of my Garmin POI, routes etc.). Installed new BaseCamp. Installed 1 map of country I'm working on. Base Camps crashes as usual. Not immediately but after some time ~2h of intensive work :(
Do you see any stable alternative?
  • I too am having problems with OS 10.12.6 and BC 4.6.3 but my problem is downloading BirdsEye imagery. I've bought credits and then select the area of map I want and before downloading, it asks for username and password (despite the fact that I'm already logged into BC). However, it then won't accept my username/password combo. I've done this dozens of times to no avail, including restart etc. Any ideas?
  • Contact product support so they can troubleshoot this for you, seems like an account error.
