Export tracklog to GPX inserts current computer time not time data was collected

I am trying to use a tracklog GPX file to Geotag photos in Adobe Lightroom.

My GPS is a GPSMap 76CSx
I am using a 2009 iMac running OS X Yosemite (have a new iMac arriving tomorrow)

When I look at the downloaded tracklog (active log), it shows the location and correct date/time for each datapoint. However, when I export to a GPX file, the GPX file has the date/time that the GPX file is created instead of the date/time the datapoint was collected.

Any ideas?

As usual, I am a bit confused as to the exact question.

You have downloaded a track log: from where, to where and how?
Do you mean you have attached the device to your iMac, started up BaseCamp and imported the file into BaseCamp? Or, have you just downloaded the file from your device into the iMac file manager?

I am assuming by Export you mean that you have exported certain data from BaseCamp as a GPX file AND are looking at it in a file manager.

As for the date/time on the exported file that is just how it works in just about every computer file system when you create a NEW file. It does not affect the file contents. If you wish to change the file access and modification times you can do so using the "touch" command on your iMac in the terminal app. Its kind of geeky but you can find out more about it by opening a terminal window and typing "man touch" without the quote marks. On the other hand if you wish to change the date/time stamps on the points within the file there are any number of utilities which will do so. e.g., GPSBABEL.
