Bird Eye View (BYV)

I purchased a 1 year subscription to Bird Eye View. Went to MyGarmin maps and associated the BYV with a Dakota 20. The registered ID of the Dakota on MyGarmin products does not match the ID shown when my device is plugged into my Mac and basecamp won't download maps. I have another Dakota 20 but I can't change the association. I deleted the Dakota associated with BYV but the BYV map did not show under my maps. I re-registered my Dakota and the BYV maps association reappeared but the ID showing in My Products, does not match the id shown when plugging the GPS into usb port on the mac and reading it using BaseCamp. I registered the GPS using just the serial number and the id is pulled from the serial number. Any suggestions? I will call support tomorrow. Not a happy camper.
  • Nope, just that there's an association problem that only a call to Garmin will resolve. Either you've confused your Dakota's or perhaps the one you have is a overhauled one, and sometimes with those there is confusion over the id numbers that only come to light when you try something like this.
  • Does anyone know where Garmin gets the product ID when you register a gps. I typed in the serial number and the info appeared. The GPS was attached but I did not select the GPS from a popup and I assume the ID was pulled from a Garmin database. What happens if you buy a one year subscription and loose your GPS? Why can't you move associated maps to another GPS you own? I don't want the maps on my GPS. I just want them on BaseCamp. Does BaseCamp allow Bird Eye Views to be managed like overlays or other maps?
  • BirdsEye has to be tied to a device, and the BirdsEye images are downloaded to it, but can then be copied into BaseCamp for it to use. You can also, should you wish, clone your device and therefore download the images directly to a sd card or usb stick.

Product ID is linked to a serial number in the Garmin database, but as I suggested if you receive a refurbished/newly overhauled device sometimes there is an error as the database doesn't get updated so the Product ID may not match the serial number, and that as you can imagine causes issues.
  • I purchased Birds Eye Vies (BEV) and followed the link to My Garmin. I had new subscription and of 10 registered devices only two showed up. Showing was my Dakota 20 and my wife's Dakota 20. I selected my Dakota 20, it showed me the serial number and the next screen required me to enter my serial number. I went to BC and tried to download BEV maps. I was told the device did not have a subscription. When I check my Garmin the registered ID did not match the ID of the same unit when plugged into BC. All I want the BEV overlays is for basecamp.

I called support and was transferred to software support. They logged onto my make and I watched to two Dakota 20s at least 10 times. One and a half hours later they told me I had registered the wrong device and needed to buy another subscription. I'm a little same of what I said, but after talking to the supervisor, I was told it would be fixed in 3 days.

This morning I noticed I had a subscription in MyGarmin, manage maps section, to activate. I wanted to double check my Serial # and unit ID and found something very strange. Garmin BaseCamp shows my serial number the number printed in the battery compartment but Garmin Express shows a different serial number. I have taken screen shots, I am looking at the connected device. I have done this multiple times and if you register from Garmin Express, the wrong serial number is entered. How can this be?

I associated the new account with my wife's GPS, it shows the same serial number in all applications and downloaded a BEV.
