Basecamp and Edge Touring Plus

Hi, I would like to plan a tour with Basecamp and transfer it on my Edge Touring Plus. The only problem is that, when I try to create this plan, maps installed on my Mac are very basilar, and if I connect my Edge Touring Plus, it starts reading the installed Garmin Map on its SD and it is fatally slow (I think it takes about 15 minutes).
Is there any way to locally install Garmin maps on Mac? If there's a better way to plan routes, you are welcome. I was used to plan them on Bikeroutetoaster, but it doesn't seem to work anymore :-(

You can copy the maps to a virtual disk.

Make sure the disk is mounted as removable.

I've moved this to the BaseCamp forum.

Note that BaseCamp needs to index the map on first use, which can take a while. However having done so next time you will find it's available in a few seconds.

You might also find the easiest way is to do what I do, I have a USB stick permanently mounted on the rear of my computer and load appropriate maps to that so they're available in BaseCamp without me having to plug in my devices.

Exactly, can I know which files do I have to move to and external USB?

I also have another question: is it possible to save only my country maps (Italy) or do I have to keep them all?

I don't know why, but it indexes everything all the times, and it is really slow.

If it's still indexing maps each time you connect perhaps you haven't let it finish? Not sure about the mac version but in Windows you'll see a green bar moving underneath your device. You need to wait until that disappears.

As for which files, depends what maps you have loaded?

Also, where are you talking about when you say you just want to save Italy? On your device or in BaseCamp?

I have two different bars. One starts and finishes in about 15 minutes, then there's a second one, which lasts about 40 minutes. Probably the second one didn't finish in a proper way. I will do it again.

On my device I have the latest map included on Garmin Edge Touring Plus, I presume they are Cycle Map 2016.10 (they were recently updated).

I would like to extract Italy only on Basecamp (on Mac).

That's not easily accomplished. I don't know exactly how that map is constructed but I guess you might be able to use http://www.gmaptool.eu/en/content/gmaptool
