I have installed BaseCamp 4.6.3 and Google Earth 7.1.5.1557 for Mac. I now have a recent iMac and in the past I had a Mac pro and used Parallels virtual pc. When I attempt to view selected tracks in Google Earth I get the message that "Parallels Desk top not found; Google Earth requires Parallels Desktop to operate. Please install Parallels Desktop and try again." This occurs whether GE is open or not. If I export a track file, I can open it in GE. Why is BaseCamp looking for a Windows version of GE and not the one installed for Mac?
What comes immediately to mind would be how you got the programs on your new iMac. Did you use Apple software to transfer them from the Mac Pro over to the new iMac? Or, did you just reinstall them from scratch. If the latter how did you transfer over your old BaseCamp Library. Maybe just try directly reinstalling BaseCamp on your new machine if you haven't done so already.
The other thought I had was that it might have something to do with the com.Garmin.BaseCamp.plist file. You can find them in the ~/Library/Preferences (The Library in your Home directory is hidden and needs to be made visible before you can find it) I checked mine but it had no reference to the word Earth in it.
Thanks for your ideas Jack. The Apple store where I purchased the iMac and disposed of my old Mac pro did the transfer. So I have no idea how it was done. I can call them. Another idea I had was I have been trying the link from BaseCamp to GE with old tracks made on the old programs and machine. I will try a new one and see if that solves the problem. It could be the old files had some identifier that directs them to the old version of GE that I had, which did run on Windows XP via the virtual pc. Until that test I am signing off.
The new BaseCamp and GE programs I downloaded myself and deleted the old versions that were transferred from the old Mac pro to the new iMac.
I created a fresh track and uploaded to the newest version of BaseCamp, and the option to view in Google Earth still give the error message that GE requires Parallels to operate. So problem not solved yet.
