Lost routes

As an avid hiker and shed hunter, I always record and save every route I complete and add it to a master collection. However, one day I opened up this collection in Base Camp and found that all of my 2015 routes had disappeared! Over 300 miles! Every other year back to 2012 is still there.

Does anyone know if these routes are recoverable or what might have happened to them?

Restore from your backup? You do backup I hope?

If not you're out of luck, somehow you must have deleted them. You might be lucky though as BaseCamp creates a backup so search for AllData.bak ... Depending when you deleted them though that might not help!

Thanks for the reply. Not being a geek, how exactly do I search for AllData.bak?

Not sure how you do a search on a Mac, Google is your friend :)

On my Mac its not AllData.bak its AllData.gdb.bak

If you have had several versions of BaseCamp installed there are several versions of AllData.gdb.bak on your harddisk each loaded in a subdirectory named for the BaseCamp version. In my case I have subdirectories names 4.0, 4.1, 4.2, 4.3, and 4.4.

All of these files live in your Home directory in the hidden Library directory. Here is the path on my machine:

Macintosh HD>Users>owner1>Library>Application Support>Garmin>BaseCamp>Database>4.0>AllData.gdb.bak

My Home directory is Owner1

You can make the hidden Library directory visible by doing this:

Open the Terminal (Its found in Finder > Applications > Utilities.)
In Terminal, paste the following without the quote marks: "defaults write com.apple.finder AppleShowAllFiles YES"
Press return.
Hold the 'Option/alt' key, then right click on the Finder icon in the dock and click Relaunch.

Went to Library, then App Support...but no Garmin folder. Can you help?

There are at least two "Library" folders on OSX. There is one located as a subdirectory under your main harddisk. The other is under your Home directory. You need to be in the correct Library.

The Library under your home directory is a hidden directory and will not appear if you haven't made hidden directories visible. Have you done that?

Visible hidden directories are shown in the finder in a light gray typeface. Is the Library folder you are looking in shown in light gray type? If not, then you are in the wrong Library.

A simpler way to make sure you are in the correct Library is to use the Go menu in the Finder. While holding that menu open with your mouse, press Option and drag down to Library.
