Route from Basecamp to Nuvi

I've searched and see similar q's but not exact. I'm a geezer (but GPS savy) so pse keep it simple.

I go to Basecamp and create a route (or whatever Garmin wants to call it) to a city 200 miles away. There are several ways to get there. In Basecamp I choose the route I want to take. It is perfect. I up load it to my Nuvi 2689. When I open it on the 2689, it gives me 2 options, neither of which resemble what I finalized in Basecamp. This is a simple route following a national highway...the twist is in how to get to that highway, a distance of 30 miles. I have made sure my preferences are the same in Basecamp and the 2689.

One would think that it would be obvious to developers to enable users to plan a route on a big screen and transfer that EXACT route to the smaller screen 2689.

What am I missing? Thanks in advance.
  • Difficult to say without knowing the route showing in BaseCamp and on your nuvi. Can you post screenshots?

Assuming you're using the same map version, that route preferences and avoidances are the same in each, and that your nuvi isn't taking traffic etc into account the routes should be similar but on occasions still might not match due to slight differences in the routing algorithms.

Well, maybe this is the problem? 2689 is using City Nav 2017.10. Basecamp is using 2016.2. Dang if I can see how to update Basecamp. Also, don't know how to get a screenshot off the 2689. Thanks much!

If your device came with Lifetime Maps then you can use GarminExpress to update the maps on your computer. Once you have registered your device with the GarminExpress App then select the device in GarminExpress and then click on Map Options and you will have an option to download the updated version of the map to your Mac.

Thanks Jack. I see that now. Alas, I'm on my hot spot and data poor so I'll have to wait until I get better wifi.

I added some "vias" to make it go where I want but now can't get the new route to transfer to the 2689. Tempted to reset both Basecamp and the 2689 LMT to zero and start all over again. But, don't know how to do that ether.
  • This is probably stating the obvious, but just in case ...
When you transfer a route from Basecamp to your 2689, you access the route through the Trip Planner app. not from the "Where To" menu.

BINGO!!! You were not stating the obvious! I had no clue and voila, there is my route, just like I want it!!! ;).

    Thanks so much!!! Steve
