Exporting Tracks from Basecamp to a Nuvi 755

I have a friend who sent me a .GPX file containing an off-road trail. Is it possible to import that file into my 755 Nuvi and use it to guide me on that trail?

I have been successful in importing it into Basecamp and can view the file. I also was able to send & view the contents in Google Earth. But when I try to use Garmin Basecamp to transfer and send the tracks to my 755, selecting Routes, Tracks and Waypoints, I cannot locate the route anywhere in the GPS, let alone get it to work, even though Basecamp says the transfer is complete.

I have gone through the owners manual and it says nothing about how it should be done. Basecamp "Help" tells me nothing more than how to transfer, but not how to use it or where to find the transferred track.

Can someone set me straight on how this should be done, please?

Thanks!
  • With the number of points it could indeed be so. If you split the route and it then works you'll know that is the issue. If you can attach your routes I'll have a look at them. Note you can't attach gpx files so just change the gpx extension to one of the allowed formats.

I tried changing the file suffix to .csv, .jpg and .bmp and they won't load with any.
  • Thanks for the routes, all worked fine on my 2508 so suspect its an issue with your older nuvi. I suggest you try splitting the routes to see if that helps.

    Really!

Wow, I didn't expect that. I guess that makes sense, though. I really appreciate you taking the time to look into this for me. At least I know it's not ME doing something incorrectly. You can't imagine how much time I've spent on this issue. Or, maybe you do! Now I can relax. What I ended up doing so that I would have something to help me navigate is bring a .gpx file into Google Drive and opening it with an extension. I then enlarged the map to get plenty of detail along with the route and made 30 PDF's from the whole route, combined them all and made one nice file. I went a step further and put text on each map saying where to turn, what roads are being passed, etc. I then put it on my iPad. Did this for both the street view as well as satellite view. It may not speak the directions, but it should be the next best thing and of tremendous help. I'm having a friend ride shotgun who will act as my navigator.

It probably doesn't matter at this point, but the routes I sent you were made using a Garmin Montana 600. I may end up eventually getting one.

By the way, I went through all the waypoints and deleted anything that didn't contribute to the course. Made no difference.

    Thanks again!
