BC 4.6.2 MacBookPro Nav V Reading Map Fails

OSX 10.11.13, MacBookPro 8.3 and BMW NAV V software version 3.20

Upon detection on connected of a Nav V, BC attempts to reading the Nav V maps. After a lengthy wait, the Nav V internal disk (GARMIN) disappears from the desktop and the Nav V disappears from BC.

Same NAV V, USB cable, OSX version, BC version on a MAcBookAir 5.2 works without issue.

1 - Is this a known issue with known solution or?

2 - How can I completely remove BC and ALL of its associated components from OSX? Assumes a fresh install might solve the problem. I've done app removers, directory hunting without any luck...

3 - Suggestions!!!!!

BTW, Garmin Express has not been an issue on either system - functions properly
  • Before removing BC, try connecting the Nav 5 with no apps running and see if the USB connection remains stable when you try to look around the device's files using the Finder.

If that works OK but the problem persists in BC, the hidden files are in ~/Library/Application Support/Garmin/Basecamp

To get to your user Library, press the Option key while the Go menu is open.

There are also several preferences files in ~/Library/Preferences, all of which start with com.Garmin.Basecamp...

    Dan,

Yes the USB is stable when no other apps are running. It is also stable with other apps running including Garmin Express. I will to an uninstall and check the directories per your instructions.

    Thanks...

    Dan,

Used an app cleaner to remove BC and GE. Also cleaned out the 2 directories per above. Durning tis exercise, the Nav V GARMIN drive remained mounted, accessible and responsive.

Installed BC from the App Store. Results were the same as before - BC hangs on "reading maps", terminated in an Alert dialog and dismounts GARMIN. BC remains running and responsive.

Alert - There was a problem communicating with the Garmin device. Path: /Volumes/GARMIN/gpx/Position.gpx
  • Well that's frustrating.

What version of 10.11 are you using? I have had no such problem with 10.11.3 or 10.11.4 (not sure what your reference to 10.11.13 means).

One other thing to try is create a new user in OS X and install BC there and try again.

  • PS:

In the past, there were differences between the App Store version and the one on Garmin's web site. I don't know if that is still true, but it may be worth trying a download of BC directly from Garmin.

I removed the directory GPX from GARMIN. Relaunched BC which hangs on "reading maps" but dismounted GARMIN in less time than before. BC is remains responsive with no alert dialog.

After terminating BC and remounting GARMIN, BC had created a GPX directory in GARMIN with Current.gpx and CurrentTrackLog.gpx files within.

It appears BC can write to GARMIN but not read...hum...
