Distances Vary Between Basecamp & GPS

I have created my first route in Basecamp which appears to be Ok and the distances is stated as 66.5 miles. I have successfully transferred this to my Montana but the distance it shows is 55.5 miles. I have deleted the GPS route twice and reloaded from Basecamp and the distance is always 55.5 miles.
I initially created two routes and ,I thought, successfully joined them. The route appear to be similar but it is quite difficult to check on the Montana. I am reasonable sure that the Basecamp map is showing the correct details.
Any help would be much appreciated>

I should have said that I have looked for threads with similar problem without success

Look at the route on your Montana using BaseCamp to confirm it's the same. If it is I can't explain why there is such a difference, never happened to routes I've sent to my Montana.

A quick and semi-convenient way of discovering if the the route on the Montana is exactly the same as it is on BaseCamp is to convert the Route to a Track in BaseCamp, change the Track color to one providing high contrast with the Route color on the Montana, transfer them both to the Montana and display them together and look for deviations.

True, that would work, but I find it easier to compare in Basecamp as easier to pan, zoom etc. You can change the route colours there too so no need to convert to tracks.

Thanks for your advice. As you suggested, I have turned off the OS 1:50000 map in BaseCamp which clearly shows that the route is hardly ever on any road at all. It is usually close and in parallel to the route I created but far enough away to explain the different mileages between Basecamp and The Montana. Any thoughts on what I am doing wrong.

Difficult to know without seeing it. Are you able to post a screenshot?

Thanks to all who replied and my apologies for the late response. I deleted the route giving the different mileages and created two new ones, both of which give identical mileages so not sure why I may have done wrong other than the route was joined from two smaller routes. I followed the instructions to do this or at least I thought I did!
