Etrex 20x and Basecamp min elevation value.

Hi,

(sorry if this is posted in wrong forum but couldn't find a specific one for etrexs.

I have done the same walk over the last couple of days and both track logs show the minimum elevation is -136m. This is shown on the etrex track log and when I review the saved track and also in the detailed view of the track log in base camp. So this through out the ascent and descent totals which are in the region of about 2900m. These were coastal walks and at most I'd have been about 100m above sea level.

I took a smart phone with View Ranger installed and this had more correct figures for min elevation, ascent and descent.

I also notice in all the other tracks on base camp it also shows the min elevation is -136m. No individual index point in the detailed view has an elevation of -136m.

So is the unit faulty or is it something to do with how it calculates the height values? Any ideas on how I can correct this.

Note before each walk and I reset the track log values before setting off.

many thanks
  • This sounds like a bug to me. I would contact garmin support and if they don't have a fix, then they'll be able to open an issue for development to look into.

    Hello Apedge,

You can calibrate your altimeter if you know the elevation of where you are before starting.

    Owners manual page 20.
