Getting reacquainted with Basecamp after sometime and while moving around the a map with the pan tool the map view spins around also. Is there a way to say lock the page view while panning?

Here is a wild guess.
I do not have a MAC.
On my PC I have to hold the left click on my mouse to pan the map.
If I hold the right click on my mouse and try to pan the map will spin.
Maybe there is something malfunctioning in your mouse??

Mine doesn't do that unless I do as DATEZZ mentions, i.e., use the RIGHT mouse button instead of the LEFT mouse button or I if hold down the CONTROL key.
To quickly align it north up either do COMMAND KEY - RETURN or click on VIEW menu then click on Align North Up
