Viewing OSM gpx file in basecamp

Hello,

I have a track file that was created by the OSMAND software. I am trying to view it on the basecamp software. When I try to load it to basecamp I get an error message, with no specification of what precisely the error is. I have tried to use gpsbabel to convert from gpx xml format to any other garmin-based format. According to gpsbabel the conversion ended successfully, but still couldnot see the converted file in basecamp.

I can view the OSM-generated gpx file in any ascii editor (e.g. notepad). It contains data of hdop (lines such as: <hdop> n </hdop> where n is a number; e.g. 3.0). I haven't seen the hdop data in any of my Garmin-generated gpx's. Can this be the reason for the non-compatibility?

Pls help,

Thanks

  • GPX files may contain hdop data, and normally that wouldn't be a problem for BaseCamp (altough it isn't used or recognized by Garmin software and devices). The problem is that the OsmAnd software doesn't fully adhere to the GPX standard, and creates invalid GPX files. BaseCamp is very strict regarding the validity of GPX data; IMHO a good thing, but it can sometimes be a hassle when working with 3rd party files.
The best solution would be an improvement of the OsmAnd software so that it doesn't create invalid GPX files anymore, the second best is to use a program that converts it to a valid file.
GPSBabel should be able to do it, but I don't recommend to use 'any other garmin-based format'; convert it to GPX instead.
Or you could try JaVaWa RTWtool or an online service like GPSVisualizer.

    Thank you

Thanks for your help. I used the RTWtool, and the problem was solved!
