Getting use of a Windows machine in my current situation will be difficult. This is compounded by misplacing my Mapsource disk couple of years ago. Last time I looked there is a download on Garmin site but this is only an update and which does not work if there is no original copy - so really need a fix for El Capitan
  • That download will work provided you install BaseCamp first.

Appreciate the help but slightly confused - if I install BaseCamp for Windows (obviously on a Windows machine) then do the the MapSource update it will load up full version of MapSource?

I'll look at it when I get to the eTrex VistaCx issue.

Wurth I hope this helps not hinders your update so that 276C as well as VistaCx are recognised by Basecamp for MAC. Prior to raising issue on this forum I contacted Garmin UK via web form and was told to use Homeport in place of Basecamp - when you use Garmin on line problem system the 276C comes up as on the water so enquires are directed to the marine section. While I currently use my 276C solely for road routing I did test this and loaded Homeport onto my MAC and it behaved same way as Basecamp i.e. unit is not recognised / listed as a My Garmin Device. To indicate my ignorance of electronics could not these old "non USB mass storage device" be converted to a USB mass storage device via a firmware update?
  • I'm still hoping to fix this in the next Mac BaseCamp release, but I can't guarantee it'll make it until I sit down and see how big a change it'll be. I'll pass the problem along to the Homeport team as well, but they don't have any planned releases in the near future. I believe it would take more than a firmware update to get these old devices converted to USB mass storage.
  • USB connection

Just upgraded my mid 2011 (USB2) MBA to El Capitan and Basecamp 4.5.2 no longer recognises my 276C. Yes well aware that 276C is not a mass storage device and will not show in Finder but it did show in Basecamp when using Yosemite. Any planned fix?

    Thanks

Note, the 276c is very similar in operation to the 478

    I have the same issue.

Prior to updating, the only way to get my Garmin 478 to work with my Macbook Pro was through the monitors Thunderbolt to laptop connection.
The 478 will not work on a USB 3 port, but through the Thunderbolt connection, the USB 2 ports on the monitor work. BTW, I have never been able to get a standard USB hubs that are available to see the GPS.

Since upgrading, my GPS is no longer recognized on the USB 2 ports

The 478 is a superior GPS in many ways, especially for my multi use purposes. It is bad enough it is no longer supported, but at least I could still use it with the computer when it will connect.
  • I had some luck getting the eTrex Vista CX working, but it's still spotty with it communication to the device randomly dropping. I've had no luck with the older GPSmap devices. I'm not receiving any messages from the apple io service that monitors connections to USB ports. Unfortunately, I don't expect Apple to spend much time figuring out why older Garmin devices are not working any longer in the new OS X.

Sorry. I wish I could get these working for you all, but I've run out of time for this release.

my gps worked ok with the latest apple OS (through thunderbolt USB hub)
My issue started after the latest basecamp update.

You "ran out of time" on the latest release?
  • The first post does list a USB discovery issue fix.
seems the fix caused the opposite.

    How about an "unfix" ?
