Join Routes

How do I join several short routes to create a single combined route? I found this instructional link which seemed perfect...

https://garminbasecamp.wikispaces.com/Routes#x-Edit Route-Join Routes

...except I cannot find a menu item: Advanced | Join Selected Routes

Using Basecamp 4.5.2, iMac Yosemite (10.10.5)

PS, I know a workaround is to convert routes to tracks and join tracks, then reconvert track back to single route. Problem is combined route doesn't have waypoints, via points etc. that were in original routes.
  • When converting tracks to route, use the DIRECT profile, then you have viapoints. When done set your route to the right profile.
  • Edit > Advanced > Join Selected routes

    or

after selecting multiple routes in the left hand pane, Right Click on one of the routes and Join Selected Routes is available in the context menu.

You are then taken into a dialogue that allows you to re-order the routes before creating the single joined route.

Seems fine here, same Basecamp version (4.5.2) but on Windows 8.1. (in case that makes a difference)

Chris - the difference must be that you are using Basecamp in Windows. I am using on Mac. The Advanced submenu not here, either under Edit menu or in right-click context menu. Maybe Garmin can respond - was this removed from Mac version of Basecamp?

Thanks for the response - this seems to apply to the work-around I mentioned (converting route to track and back to route). Happy to try, but I don't see an option to use Direct profile. I am doing this for Motorcycle routing; "Direct" doesn't seem to be an option when converting.
  • Open the route properties window of your first route, and then the second one. Copy/paste the contents of the second window into the first, at the end of course. Recalculate the route and if it's accurate, repeat with route 3. And so on. I do it all the time and lately have just copied/pasted 8 or 10 day trips together at one time without the intermediate recalculation with good results.

As to the question of Mac vs Windows feature sets, the two have never shared a common development path, feature set or workflow. Comparing the two is a waste of time.

Steve, good suggestion... But I may be doing this incorrectly. When I copy the route contents from one route window into another, all of the waypoints and via points copy over, but they are out of order - randomly jumbled. Then it takes some time to go in and drag them back to the correct order.

    Here's what I'm doing:
    - Open first route details window
    - Highlight all of the waypoints/via points
    - Click on Edit>Copy
    - Open second route details window
    - Highlight ending waypoint
    - Click Edit>Paste

The details are copied into the route list, but in random order, not in the sequential order of the route.

    What am I missing?

    Thanks,

    Bob C

    Running:
    Basecamp for Mac, ver 4.5.2
    iMac OSX Yosemite
  • My apologies, my instructions were misleading (wrong). Open the route properties window for the first route. Then simply drag the next days route from the left pane into the route properties window and drop it below your last waypoint. I'd forgotten the part about dragging the route itself, not the list of points. Again, sorry for the confusion.
  • Hey - that's it! Works perfectly. Many thanks.

Click the drop-down button at the top right area of the route window (with the particular route opened) and choose "Direct Routing". You can also change the default-routing style to "Direct Routing" by clicking a similar-looking drop-down in the top right area of the app itself.
  • A short cut for joining several routes is to highlight your routes in the left-hand pane and then drag them into a route dialog. All the items are added to that route.
