You're going to want to contact Garmin Support then as this is either a device issue or an OS X issue. The device has to be mounted by El Capitan in order for BaseCamp to recognize it.
  • Sorry about this. We have a fix for the problems and were trying to get it out before 10.11 was released, but obviously missed the date. 4.5.2 will be released next week and will support El Capitan.

Will the update fix the spinning freeze we had with Yosemite?

Hi Wurth, this night I rolled back to Yosemite and now the 276c device is available for BaseCamp. Great for me, I must use it this WE.

now the question is....Yosemite will be the last OSX ? Who can answer to my question? Apple or Garmin?

    Thanks again for your help.

I'm not familiar with the 276c, but it may be connecting in Garmin Mode instead of mass storage. That means it should show up in BaseCamp even when it doesn't show up in Finder. We're delaying the release of 4.5.2, so I can look into these Garmin Mode device connection issues on El Capitan.

I'm still looking into this issue. The plan is to put it in 4.6, but perhaps I'll have an epiphany today and be able to fix it for 4.5.2. It's not looking likely though.

This is an old problem with the Garmin GPSMAP 276C/376/478 USB devices and newer (2012+) Mac Hardware. The chartplotters only support USB v2.0. The lower line levels of v2.0 are not recognized by most newer Mac's. If you can find an old USB Hub that is USB v2.0 you might get the MAC to recognize the device - not all of these v2.0 USB Hubs work. I have one of these Hubs I use when I have to connect client devices to my MacBook Pro but that Hub is no longer sold.

I can give you my feedback:

I use a MacBook Pro my 08 with USB2 ports.
With Yosemite the BaseCamp work fine and its can see the Garmin GPSMap 276c device
With Yosemite from Finder or from USB resource it's not possible to see the Garmin GPSMap276c device like a mass storage

With El Capitan the BaseCamp can't see the Garmin GPSMap 276c device
With El Capitan from Finder or from USB resource it's not possible to see the Garmin GPSMap276c device like mass storage

I know that with the Mac newer 2012 (I think that have USB3 port) it's not possible to connect the Garmin, this is a big problem for a lot's of people here in Europe that had this type of Garmin family,
Some people didn't change these devices with other newest Garmin because it' great device for used in Africa trips.

    Hope this help.
