Question from a complete newbie. Only had my Virb Elite a few days, so bear with me.
The mobile app was important to deciding me to go for the Virb Elite. For much of its use, my camera will be mounted above my head, on the roll bar of a sports car. I wanted to be able to use either my iPad or iPhone to frame the video before setting off. Also important to me was that the Virb Elite has several "zoom" settings for the video.
I realise this does not involve mechanical zooming by the lens, but I was surprised that I only seem to get one viewfinder view on a mobile device when connected to the Elite - I think it's the widest view. I'd have expected this to change is the camera was set, either in the device or in the mobile app, to one of the other 'zoom" settings. Can someone confirm that this doesn't actually happen? Or should it happen and is there something wrong with my set up? Seems a bit strange to be able to select a zoomed in setting in the mobile app, but not see the effect on screen in that app.
There's nothing wrong with your setup. I also noticed the different zoom levels listed in the app and I have no idea why they are there. As far as I know there's only two settings - "Wide/Normal/Default" and "Lens Correction" which is a much narrower view, but probably more useful to you.
The mobile app will show you the real view/difference between wide and LC, up until you start recording; then you lose the view. But you really should be paying attention to driving by then, right? ;)
Ah, but that was my point. I only get one view in my iPad and it doesn't alter. I'm assuming that the "zooming" is done by the camera using a smaller group of pixels when it is on settings other than the widest, and I'm disappointed that the app doesn't seem to be able to show any result from that selection, it just keeps the one view.
My co-driver would take care of the settings for me!
