Installing on Windows 10

Trying to install for the first time on a Windows 10 machine, however Virb Edit wants Windows Media Player, which doesn't exist on Windows 10, so it won't install. Is there a work around for this?

I just installed Virb Edit 3.1.0 on Windows 10240 running on a Surface 3 without any problems. What version of Virb Edit are you installing? What version of Windows 10 are you running? Have you installed all the updates? What type of computer is it?

    Windows 10 not working

I have the same problem Windows 10 64 bit dosn't have windows media player so when I try to install i get the following message and you cannot download Windows Media Player for windows 10

    ---------------------------
    VIRB Edit
    ---------------------------
Windows Media Player v11 or higher is a required upgrade for you to use this Garmin product. Please click 'OK' to launch your web browser to download and install Window Media Player v11 (or newer). Once you have this installed you can then re-run this installation.
    ---------------------------
    OK Cancel
    ---------------------------

any help would be appreciated (and have tried on a couple of computers)

  • I'm having the same issue. Contacted Garmin support and they just brushed their hands with it saying it wasn't their problem. Useless support!

Thanks for pointing us to this issue. We are investigating.

In the mean-time, here is something you could try:

    1. Download and install 7zip from the web.
    2. Right click on the VIRBEdit_xyz.exe and select 7-zip>Extract to (whatever the file is called)
    3. Double click on the msi to perform the install without the installer.

Let me know if this helps any.
  • wmp does exist in windows 10, it's just not the default player. Just edit this to the default player and I'm sure you'll be fine.

Managed to install using this method but the minute I try to launch the program it shuts down saying there was an issue.

Are you by chance running a version of Windows 10 that is named N or KN? You can check by right-clicking on the start button and choosing 'System'. It should give you the name there.

If you are running N or KN, try installing https://www.microsoft.com/en-us/download/details.aspx?id=48231 before running VIRB Edit.

Unfortunately none of that has worked for me
I’m still getting the same frustrating message saying Windows Media Player 11 or above was required
Followed the links with no success

    Any other ideas ?

Don't appear to have either of the mentioned windows versions

or is it even worth bothering with. i.e. should I just use another editing program ?

    Thanks in advance
