I want to use footage from my bicycle mounted Garmin Virb Elite (front) and rear mounted Garmin Virb Basic into a picture in picture video with GPS overlay. Since Virb Edit does not offer a picture in picture feature, I am using iMovie on my Macbook which does this very nicely. However, in order to use the Virb video file that shows the GPS overlay, I have to first convert the Virb Elite footage to MP4.
There in lies the problem. It takes forever to convert even a short video file (less than 5 minutes) to MP4 if it ever completes at all. Either I'm doing something wrong or this conversion feature isn't working properly.
Is anyone aware of any other way to use Virb footage on iMovie that INCLUDES the GPS overlay? Since there are several overlays to choose from in Virb Edit, I use one that is best for cycling and not just the basic stuff that shows up on the original Virb Elite footage.
There's got to be an easier way than going through the painfully slow and frustrating process of converting to MP4. The current file I'd like to use is actually an hour and a half long and I'd prefer to do all my editing to condense the file into a shorter video on iMovies to keep the front and rear footage in perfect sync rather than trying to clip the footage separately in Virb Edit and then try and splice it all together in iMovie.
All this would be so much simpler if Garmin would just add a video in video feature already. Second question is does anyone know if Garmin is planning on adding this anytime soon?
