Virb Edit for Windows reports mph from several seconds ahead of video

In a video from a motorcycle ride, as a stop sign comes into view 30 or 40 yards ahead, the mph display drops to zero, pauses at zero for a bit, then starts accelerating again. Meanwhile the POV hasn't reached the stop sign yet. Then the POV in the video reaches the stop sign and stops, while the speed in the display has gone back up to 45 mph or whatever. It's ridiculous. The offset is enough to be a major annoyance.

Has anybody else encountered this?

Are there any plans to fix this? I just installed an update with a gratifying number of bug fixes, but this needs to be on the list. They could at least allow the user to enter a fudge factor offset and roughly calibrate by hand.

Or I could write a Perl script to offset all the times in the GPS data file by a given fudge factor, if that's text. UPDATE: FIT is not text, it's binary. OK, I'll work around their bugs in C instead.

Alternatively, why not try the G-Metrix Sync option.

Ohhh, I didn't notice that. Looks like the offset is 13 seconds. Why would they do that? Is that how long it takes the GPS to get its bearings? I thought the VIRB was already turned on for a minute or so before I started recording, but maybe not.

So I tried that, and it seems to be synced. But now I've got the Resting 145 mph Bug, and it reports the speed strangely when moving. Is it doing a moving average? There's a bit where I go from a traffic light to a stop sign 100 yards away, hitting above 40 mph along the way, and it thinks I'm topping out at 21 mph. When I stop at the light, the speed drops to zero much more slowly than the POV speed. When the bike stops, it slowly, slowly drifts down to zero and then shoots up to 145 mph when it hits zero. Then when the bike starts again it starts making some kind of sense again, except that it's reporting a slow speed. Then I get on the highway and it settles down to something halfway reasonable.

Is there a known way to make it just report the speed? I got this camera for the track, where a moving average isn't useful.

Anyway, thank you for your help! It's certainly an improvement.

I think I had similar problems when I used the Slider to start recording, I find its better to turn the Virb on as early as possible with the Power button and then use the Slider to start recording.
