Canot see Imported Videos in Virb Edit

Hi I have a problem that has recently reared it's head with Virb Edit

After doing a ride with the Virb Elite I tried to import the videos as usual using virb edit.

When starting Virb Edit it tells me that the Virb is connected but the 'import all' and 'import selection' options are greyed out. 'Import other' is selectable so I did that and pointed it to my cameras drive and go to the DCIM/100_Virb folder where I can see the mp4 that was created on the ride.

After selecting the file I choose open and 'import only'. Virb Edit then tells me the Library has updated 1/1. Fine I think but after selecting ok I get taken to the Gallery but nothing is showing in the media library. I check the folder where the settings points to but it is empty.

So I try again only this time I choose 'copy clips' and not 'import only'. Virb Edit then takes a moment and sure enough it once again says 'Library updated 1/1' but once again nothing is showing in the media library when it takes me to the gallery screen. Only this time I check the folder the settings points to and the mp4 file is there but it is still not showing in the Gallery screen.

I take it a step further and click on 'create video'. I choose a name for the video and ok it. It takes me to the video library but it is empty and not showing my mp4 from above.

I'm stumped. I've tried reinstalling virb edit, replaced the SD card in the elite, changed the settings to point to a different location but virb edit still cannot see any files.

Its been about 6 months since I last played with Virb Elite and everything worked fine. I am running everything on the latest editions, Virb Elite is software version 4.00 Serial number 3AP082569. Virb Edit is 3.1.0.2

One thing Ive noticed is that Garmin Express does not automatically show when I connect the Virb Elite tho my Edge 510 does but I can't remember if Express used to display when I plugged it in before.

I run Windows 7. The MP4 file works fine in windows media btw.

Any help would be greatly received as without Virb Edit the elite becomes a bog standard video camera without the use of the gps etc overlays

    Bob,

I am very sorry to hear you're running into trouble with VIRB Edit.

This sounds like a strange issue indeed. From the symptoms you describe I wager VIRB Edit thinks the files from your camera are already imported into VIRB Edit.

If that's not the case, try changing the import location for your data (Menu > Settings > Clip Storage location).

The more radical thing would be to blow away your VIRB Edit data. Close VIRB Edit, and browse to C:\Users\{USERNAME}\AppData\Roaming\Garmin\ where USERNAME is your username. Rename the "VIRB Edit" folder to something else (so in case you want your data back, you can rename it). Now launch VIRB Edit again, now it should act like you never imported any videos and the import might work.

Please let me know how this goes.

Hi Falagar unfortunately following your steps doesn't work, I still have '0 New Clips' & '0 New Photos' showing in Virb Edit when I'm on the 'Import Clips & Photos page.

Anything else I can try? Maybe the Virb itself has bricked? Though it records ok and I can see and play the recorded video on the Virb so to be honest it's more likely to be a software issue

Can you play the MP4 with Windows Media Player? If you can, could you possibly share one of these MP4 files?

I have the same issue, can't see imported clips. I called Michael in tech support about this. I thought the problem was caused by the 3.1 upgrade. As I discussed with Michael, last night I ran system restore to bring back 2.9.2. Same issue: no clips. Then I tried by Win 7 laptop which still had 2.9.2, no clips, old or newly imported. Virb Edit 2.9.2 and earlier used to work on both.

Then I installed 3.1 on my wife's computer, and my computer that backs up other computers, and I was easily able to import the same clips that were not visible on my desktop and laptop.

So one difference is that both my desktop and laptop have Adobe Creative Cloud with Lightroom and Premier Pro. My wife's and the backup computer do not. I recently upgraded to the Creative Cloud versions. Another difference is my computers have Cyberlink PowerDVD.

Any ideas what could be causing the apparent interaction. Thank you in advance.

Adding to my prior post. I did rename the Edit data in C:\Users\{USERNAME}\AppData\Roaming\Garmin\, re-installed .NET; neither helped. I have since tried 3.1 on a computer that has PowerDVD and it worked OK. Thanks.

Sorry it's took me so long to reply to this Falagar, Here is a quick 30second mp4 file made on the virb for you to have a look at

    https://www.dropbox.com/s/unt2gt1eghd6teb/VIRB0004.MP4?dl=0

I'm still not convinced it is a file problem, more to do with a windows 7 and/or virb edit issue I reckon, though it worked fine in the past and I've not added anything obvious to win7 that could interfere with virb edit.
    Thx

    That file seems fine.

Do you by chance have more than 1 VIRB connected to your computer? Or have an SD card with VIRB data plugged in?

Nothing like that but have found a VirbEdit log file in my user temp folder that contains the following:

    Run starting at 04/08/2015 14:25:32
    14:25:32 Error impl\MediaFoundationRawMovieMetaDataProvider.cpp line 28 HRESULT -2147024662
    14:25:32 Error impl\MediaFoundationRawMovieMetaDataProvider.cpp line 28 HRESULT -2147024662

    14:26:04 Error impl\MediaFoundationRawMovieMetaDataProvider.cpp line 28 HRESULT -2147024662

maybe something to do with it?

That is very possible. That's a class we use to get MetaData from the video but it looks like it's failing. We'll dig some more.

Still can't import into my Windows VIRB Edit 3.1

I posted earlier. I still can't import clips.

I de-installed Virb Edit, deleted the database in my roaming profile, deleted the video\virb files, and deleted the Virb Edit registry hive.

Still, when I connect my Virb via USB, or the micro SD card in with a SD adapter, Virb Edit sees the photos but not my clips.

Everything is OK on my Mac, but I don't use my Mac for this purpose.

Any tips? I saw something about de-installing a codec pack. My codecs are standard Microsoft ones. Also a reference to 3.1.0.2 but I can't find it.

    Help!
