Changing Computers - How to Import VIRB Data?

I just received a new computer and I am retiring the old one.

I know where all the original video files are and the videos that I created with VIRB. But how I export to the new computer (running now windows 8.1 - my current is running windows 7) the GPX and FIT files (and whatever other information is saved on the original files).

If I don't do that, I will lose all my GPS, cadence, HR and power data related to my VIRB videos!!

You might want to experiment with 're-importing' the videos to a new folder (essentially copying them). I haven't actually tried this, so you may need to fiddle and see what it does.

Alternatively, just copy the entire folder structure (both the video and data folders) *exactly as they are* to the new computer. When you start Virb Edit, it should 'find' everything.

If neither of these methods work, then I don't know....

Yeah this would be helpful. I reformatted and lost all my stuff. I tried to copy of garmin data folders but it didnt work.

On my new start, I now point everything to a secondary drive, hopefully it will still read the info the next time i have to change an OS/format.
  • You might want to try copying all the contents of the following folder to the new computer:
    C:\Users\<Username>\AppData\Roaming\GARMIN\VIRB Edit

This should work provided you don't change your Windows user-name and all the data ends up in the exact same path as before.

Providing an easy way to transfer data from one computer to another is an item on our list.
  • I will try the steps outlined here and come back with this thread what have worked (if any). It may take a few days since the computer that came was configured not the way I wanted so I returned it and they are sending me a new one with the right specs, but hopefully in the next days I will have an update. Thank you everyone for your help.
  • Need help. User has changed since windows chose the folder name for me...

So I tried everything and I can see the videos there, but no map or speed, cadence or power.
It must have a way to see my old data there. Please help. I have more than 30 videos there I would like to maintain the original data!

Not sure that I understand your problem 100%.

First, if your Windows user name is not what it should be, then I suggest creating a new Windows user with a new name. Make sure it has no 'foreign' characters (or even punctuation or spaces) in it.
Then log into this new Windows account, and run Virb Edit. This should create all the Windows folders for this new account. Close Virb Edit.
Then copy all data, video, etc from the old PC / user account to this new Windows account, taking into consideration the folder structure of each (data to data, video to video, etc.)
Run Virb Edit again, It should find all the new data, video, etc.
