VIRB Elite/ Edge 810 (sensor data missing on video)

Hi all,

Apologies for what's probably a simple question (but I did google & sticky-check!):

How do I add my edge 810 sensor data to a video? my edge records cadence & heart rate, adding the guages in virb edit shows 0...

I'm not really looking to pair the sensors to the VIRB as I'll always have my edge but may not always have the VIRB...

Also - I have auto-pause turned off on my edge (I'm commuting so would like to track total including stops) but on my first run this morning it recorded 4 videos rather than the 1 I was expecting...

Thanks in advance for any help!

Using Virb Edit you can, create video, click on the scissor icon and add GPS, then select the required file from your Edge, I find that Virb Edit usually does a pretty good job of aligning the Edge data with the Virb video (but there is an option to adjust it if required).
If you pair your sensors with the Virb it's a one off operation and then they will show up when available, they'll still be paired with the Edge as well.
The Virb break any video into 22 minute 3.5Gb (approx) segments, that's just the way it works.

    Many thanks for replying!

I can add the GPS data (I actually have to replace as the elite already has gps data)

The map is displayed, however I still don't get the sensor data displaying...Any ideas?

Did you pick a template that has the sensor data in it?
  • As mentioned above, you can have your sensors paired to both the Virb and the Edge at the same time which makes life easy.

I have found on a few occasions that when I have imported my gpx file from my 510 some sensor data wasn't available in the overlays (power or HR) even though it was shown on Garmin Connect and Strava sites and in the original Elite captured data. A bug of some type I assume.

    Bingo :)

The problem is if GPS is on on the VIRB elite. I've now tried a couple of scenarios:
    1. GPS on - Replacing GPS from edge only adds GPS data
    2. GPS off - adding GPS from edge adds all data
    3. All sensors connected to edge & elite - Perfect, many thanks for the tips guys, I wasn't aware I could connect sensors to multiple devices!

Now I just need to sort the mic issue... after about 3 minutes on every ride it appears to pick up an asthmatic walrus....

I expect the asthmatic walrus just needs to get fitter (or an electric bike). :D

Yes, the sensors just broadcast data - they don't listen for any replies; it's one-way-only communication. This means that a number of other devices can 'listen' to the same sensor without problems.

Completely off topic from the original but anyone tell me how to set a default template for my videos?

I seem to set the same one each time which seems like wasted effort!

I don't think it's possible currently, but it's one of the things they're working on.

What I find more annoying is that if I create a video using my Virb (as opposed to Virb Elite), the exported video has the meaningless default gauges embedded despite the Virb providing no GPS data.
The only way I can currently remove the gauges is to add some random GPS data from somewhere and then select no overlays (I don't get an option to choose overlays until there is some data).
