Sync changes not saved and can't export

My computer specs (desktop, custom build):
Windows 8.1 / Intel i3-4150 3.50Ghz / 16GB RAM / Geforce GT 740 (drivers up to date)

I'm having ongoing problems editing and exporting videos with Garmin Virb. My computer is almost brand new (I actually bought it specifically for editing videos as my old laptop was too slow) and all relevant drivers are up to date. I did manage to create and export a video last week, so I know that it should theoretically be possible, but the current video I'm working with is driving me nuts. My problems are:

* GPS sync is always 20-30 seconds out. I don't understand this as my camera (Virb basic) and GPS device (Edge 510) display the same time to the second. Isn't it a simple fix to make sure they're aligned? Regardless, the current video I'm editing consists of 4 videos, all linked to to the same GPX file. I go in and edit the GPS sync info for each clip, but if I exit the program and re-open the file all the edited sync information has reset to default again. This happens whether I exit the program voluntarily (closing it using the menu option), or in the following case.

* Cannot export video. Whether I try to export to .mp4 or upload directly to Youtube, it either immediately crashes or crashes after the progress bar has reached a few percent, displaying the message "There was an error exporting the video". If I then go back to the "Edit Video" tab and try to play the video, it says "There was an error playing the video". I need to restart the program in order to start working with the video again, but by doing so all the GPS data is out of sync again.

Any suggestions? I was using version 2.80 and hoped that the recent update I installed today (version 2.9.1) would help, but it's exactly the same.
  • Yep, this is the same stuff I get.

If you are really desperate you can try this. Even though my clip that I had specific issue with exporting was way under 4gb, it would keep stopping at the same place. What I did was make it even smaller.

For example, create the project from scratch, sync, whatever, trim off half, either right or left, then export. Do the same thing again with the other half.

Keep the final clips under a GB for sure.

May not be a size issue but thats the way it seems to me. I was able to cut the same clip into two parts and the two parts exported fine.

This software is still VERY MESSED UP but it's all there is, that I know of.
  • Nothing Saves

    I got a similar Problem.

I am able to work around with Overlays creating a look I like, but when I want to save as a new Template, I enter the name and click "Create new Template", Nothing happens.

My Overlay disappear, and my named template is not there (There is also no "Customs" sub section appearing in the Template menu).

I redo everything, and try export my film, it does export my montage, but the film has no overlay on it (just the plain footage without the Gauges.

I am using the French Version under Windows 8.1

Like you I have noticed that I could not save my modified template, I could however, after re-adding a default template, edit gauges to my liking, again, and export, they were there.
  • Can't make it work

I tried over and over, the exported files has only the raw footage without overlay. Even transitions do not make it in the finished product. The montage effects are not saved in the “My film project”, so I guess the problem is more with saving function than exporting.
The only thing that works like it should, is importing clips from the camera.
  • I tried to DE install and reinstall Virb edit (complete with a reboot in-between), but no changes.

P.S. I wanted to reinstall the English version just in case the French version was bugged, but the installation program does not prompt for a language selection, it takes the computer language value.

I wonder if there is a file permission issue when you save.

If you are able to re-import the files, I'd try to remove your database and start over. The database is located at C:\Users\{username}\AppData\Roaming\Garmin\VIRB Edit. Delete that folder, re-start VIRB Edit, re-import clips and try again.

Another thought: what is your username on your machine? We've had a report of a user with a username with an accented e that ran into similar issues. We are still investigating that.

I can't re-import the files, because I deleted it fro the camera after import, but yes my user name has french characters

Thanks for confirming. That is good news for us, as it establishes a pattern that will hopefully help us get this fixed.

The bad news is that I don't think I have a good work-around to offer at this time. The bad (and very annoying) work-around would be to create a new user account without special characters.

We will try to get this fixed as quickly as possible.

Can we trick the software to use "Public" folder?

I confirm that on the same computer but under different user account (with no special characters), everything works fine!
Also the program is a lot more stable, and I do not experience frozen screens as I was before.
I hope you can fix that soon, I assume not only French are affected, Russian, Scandinavians, etc...
