How to duplicate or save as a project

I am a very new user to Virb Edit, I am very proficient with Adobe Premiere Pro(PP) so am used to doing things a certain way.

First of all, I am using:
Smallish GoPro mp4 video clips
6 hour long GPX file from my Garmin Forerunner 405CX.
The work is mountain bike trail rides in the woods.

It is very time consuming to find reference points to sync up the video and gps data from this area I am riding. I realize now that this manual syncing process is much easier when the video and gps start and stop times are closer together. That's water under the bridge for me now.

So, between the bugs and my limited knowledge of the program I am finding myself having to restart my work over, more times than I wish to admit.

In PP you could just do a "Save As" and have a complete copy of the project that you could always fall back to. I don't see it with this program.

Thanks.
  • You don't need to 'Save As' in VIRB Edit. Your videos (projects) are saved automatically.

When using a VIRB Elite the syncing is done automatically as well, and there should be no painful syncing process.
  • Thanks Falagar for the response. Yep, would be nice to have the Virb Elite in that respect, maybe in the future, if GoPro doesn't get their act together.

Point in time saves are a way of life for me, in my job and in video editing. What if you have done a bunch of processing and you want to fork off in some other direction. Before you do that you would save you could get back to that point again so you would not lose all that previous work. So I would have to disagree with you there.

My main issue here is whenever I open my project, it is not the same as when I exited Virb Edit, either of my own free will or if it crashed. I lowered my ambitions and am working on a short 12 minute mp4 60fps clip, with audio, straight from the GoPro.

    I would
    1. import the clip
    2. add to timeline
    3. import gpx route
    4. sync to the clip
    5. close virb edit
    6. reopen virb edit

and the clip is no longer in sync.

I am using Windows 8.1. I started this with version 2.8.x and switched to 2.9.1 , yesterday. I deleted my old version, deleted the database, reinstalled 2.9.1 and have to re-sync every time.

Very recently I tried working through the whole project, this time without closing VE.

    opened VE
    resynced
    Added transitions, music,
tried to export. VE would not export.

    Closed the project
    opened VE
    resynced
transitions and music were still there so did not need to do it again.
    tried to export as 30fps
    Acted like it was exporting
when it got to 100 percent, VE closed
Tried to view the output 885MB mp4 video file, with vlc, and it would not play.

if your track/video is just a few seconds out of sync, the chance is that your track is jumping to the previous node (connection of two straigh lines).
have a look at this video https://forums.garmin.com/showthread.php?75263-How-To&p=378295#post378295 from about 05:30.
I had this problem in 2.6.2 , I have not checked if it's still there in 2.9.1
  • It's no where in sync, off by many minutes. Funny thing is, i have done these steps a dozen times or more and whenever I reopen the project, the clip ALWAYS goes to the same wrong GPS section. I have recreated the project from scratch multiple times. Removed the GPS from the clip, re-added, re-synced etc, never stays to the sync point I change it to.
  • I have created a screen capture of the steps I do, maybe I'm doing something wrong.

    Ideas welcome.

This is the most absurd reply I never seen from a developer. VIRB sucks cause it doesn't allow to save project or a copy. A LOT OF TIMES YOUR APP CRASHES, I've been editing hours, and then , magically your app crasch, and ..voalaa. NO PROJECT, no way to recover last project / edit. .. NO WAAYYY cause there is no place for where to foinf and open a solution / project file.

GO nd add a Save As, save a copy method for the love of god !!
  • I partially agree. On my setup Edit does not crashes anymore. Sometimes it freezes, if you combine the Virb recordings with foreign footage, but you can still leave the project (after some seconds/minutes).
But I often want to test something, change the G-Metrix source, cut some clips, add and remove them to find a specific part, relocate gauges or change the whole template. Then I end up with changing everything back by pressing CTL-Z innumerable times or delete the project and start from the beginning.
It would be easier to copy the project, play around and delete it afterwards. With that findings edit the "real" project.
    Or make "auto save" selectable.
