Video "Import other" issue with custom videos

I have a front VIRB Elite and rear Virb basic camera. Since VIRB Edit doesn't do PIP, I used Nero Video to handle that portion and wanted to take the exported video and overlay it with the GPS data.

I exported the video as a 1080P 30FPS MP4. The issue occurs when I try to import the video into VIRB Edit or just to get VIRB Edit to recognize it. I've even tried manually moving in the clip folder and renaming the file in the VIRB0000.mp4 format with no success. I was able to jack it in momentarily by renaming the file to the name of an existing video clip; however, the video length was incorrect. But it played fine until I relaunched the program at which time it recognized the video as being a bad file and wouldn't let me edit the video anymore.

It is like the file is being blocked by the program.

Thank you for the response. I could certainly do this; however, it would not work with how I am editing. You are using Virb Edit first and then adding more video afterwards. This would not allow you to swap between the two video streams without affecting the display of the gauges. As soon as your main video went to the small PIP window, your gauges would go there with it.

I am taking the two Virb videos and doing my PIP edits with the inputs swapping throughout. Sometimes the front camera is the main video and sometimes the rear camera is the main video. I have to render out the video and then apply the gauges and this is what Virb Edit is not allowing me to do.

I have done this before using earlier versions of Virb Edit but due to the other issues I was experiencing with the software, I haven't used it for a while.

If Nero Video can chromakey, you could render the video as a plain green or blue screen with just the gauges and no actual video. then lay your two video tracks in Nero and add a third keyed track that is the gauges. I learned this from someone who uses Dashware and Premiere.

I've looked at and considered Dashware in the past but I can't use it right now. They have disabled downloads so they can focus on their next release. Was the software buggy? This suggestion would also be completely bypassing Virb Edit.

I'm still looking to use the Virb Edit Gauges rather than dumping Virb Edit completely. I'm finding that it can still be buggy as hell though. I tried to export a video last night that I spent over an hour editing and it crashed. This morning when I try to export it again, it says the videos can't be found. Turns out I had to hack their video.xml files to provide 'new' HashValue values because it thought the video length had increased by .5. I also zeroed out the offsets but I'm not sure what this value is for. I was able to determine the new values by manually importing the videos into the database. I had to do this for each of the files before it allowed me to open the project and not lose all my work.

My gut feeling on this is that the developers have tried to lock down people using Virb Edit that don't have Virb cameras and in doing so have screwed those of us that use multiple cameras. But I'm hoping I'm wrong.

AFAIK there is nothing done about NON-VIRB users. VIRB-EDIT is just very selective about the .MP4 it gets.
It wants the correct video codec (x264) and the correct audio codec (aac).
If you want to import NON-VIRB clips (like .MP4's from another source), look at the video in this post:

In the video AnyVideoConverter is used but you may be able to select the correct codecs in your program.

We don't try to lock down anyone, but we do put our focus on VIRB videos.

The multi-camera story admittedly is something we don't support very well at this point. We plan to support multiple VIRBs a lot better in a future version.

VIRB Edit 2.9 allows you to export transparent PNG files with just the gauges, you can then import these in Premiere or some other tool. Maybe that is an option for you?

I saw that new option to export the transparent PNG files but hadn't tried it. I will certainly give this a shot and it will hopefully be a workaround to the issue. I'll provide feedback if this works.

What is the Virb Edit software looking for as a requirement to successfully import a video file? Maybe there is a tweak in the rendering settings I'm doing that will allow it to be imported into Virb Edit? If nothing has changed in the software to prevent me from doing this then it must be something in the settings that has changed on my side. Previously, I was exporting using Adobe Premiere but now I'm using Nero Video.

It exports one PNG per frame (so 30 per second if the video is 30 fps) to make sure they look sharp when animated. So that will be a lot of files! Sounds like you exported a video that was over an hour long.

I tried the PNG export but I'm probably doing something wrong (again).
I ended up with a folder containing 3 PNG files but couldn't work out what to do with them in Premier.
