You can download the new version at http://www.garmin.com/support/download_details.jsp?id=6591. The update inside the application should also be live soon.

We believe we have the issue of disappearing overlays on export fixed.

We improved seeking performance on playback, so everything should be a lot more responsive.

You can now download some additional gauges and templates.

This version also adds the capability to export a sequence of transparent PNG files of just the gauges of a video. That allows users to import them more easily into other video applications.

The official change-list:

  • Added capability to export a project as a set of transparent PNG files that only contain the gauges (for use in other video editing tools).
  • Added capability to download additional additional templates and gauges.
  • In edit mode, you can now right-click on a gauge and choose to delete it (as an alternative to using the Delete key).
  • The position marker on the map will now stay in view when playing back a clip or video.
  • Changed minimum screen resolution to 1280 x 720.
  • Gauge Builder UI Improvements.
  • Improved performance and responsiveness of the video player. Seeking should work much better.
  • Improved start-up time and memory usage.
  • Fixed issues with disappearing overlays.
  • Fixed some export issues when creating transitions.
  • Fixed issue with importing videos with overlapping file names.
  • Fixed wrong background color for library that was occurring on some pages.
  • Fixed crashes that would occur when deleting or moving a file while VIRB Edit was using it.
  • Made the map less obnoxious. It should now stay hidden if you choose to hide it.
  • Cycling Vector power dynamics will be included in VIRB Edit or next VIRB Elite firmware?
  • With this new version I am finally able to modify an existing template and add, and move Gauges and Graphs without them disappearing.
However, when I save the new template, I am prompted for a name and I click on create template, Next, a black box appears next to the classic template where I would expect the new template to appear, it has no thumbnail, and no Custom Category is created on the template list. I can see the corresponding thumbnail to the new template as a png file under this path:
    C:\Users\[Username]\AppData\Roaming\Garmin\VIRB Edit\Telemetry\Templates
only the .png file is found on that folder
    the folder C:\Users\[Username]\AppData\Roaming\Garmin\VIRB Edit\Database\2\Templates
is empty and I can't find any newly created .vet file
Finally, when I close VirbEdit and open it again, the black box next to the classic template disappears as if I have not created previously any new template.

    I am running Windows 8.1
previously, to use a custom template coming from a Windows 7 laptop, I had to place it on this path
    C:\Program Files (x86)\Garmin\VIRB Edit\Templates
and the png on this subfolder
    C:\Program Files (x86)\Garmin\VIRB Edit\Templates\Thumbnails

If I do not save the modified template, It does not appear on the video when exporting it.

I also used the new option to get more templates, I selected Hud Tech1 (with a cycling image) the template is downloaded to this path
    C:\Users\[Username]\AppData\Roaming\Garmin\VIRB Edit\DownloadedOverlays\Templates\HUD Tech 1
I can see the .vet file and the png thumbnail files
It appears under cycling category, with a cloud icon with an arrow, however it does not show any thumbnail, and No gauges or any information appear when selecting it
  • I think i have finally narrowed what is the problem with saving templates and downloaded templates not showing
my username includes an Accented letter "e" so that the actual folder path looks like this (X characters indicate upper or lower case characters with no accent )
    C:\Users\XxxéXxxxxxx\AppData...
I switched to a new local username with no accented characters, working in the same computer, the templates are saved correctly, both the png thumbnail and the vet file are saved under
    C:\Users\[Username]\AppData\Roaming\Garmin\VIRB Edit\Telemetry\Templates
    and downloaded templates show ok
So it seems file saving is working with the path with accented characters for many operations such as downloading of fit files to
    C:\Users\[username]\AppData\Roaming\Garmin\VIRB Edit\Database\2\FIT
, and the creation of png thumbnails for new templates,
However, the saving of vet files, and the reading of the
    C:\Users\[username]\AppData\Roaming\Garmin\VIRB Edit\Telemetry\Templates
to display saved templates is failing when username includes at least an accented letter
Would you please take a look at this issue? I am sure many of us spanish speaking users (and maybe from some other languages) will be very grateful not having to alter our usernames to work around this problem!

    Win 8.1-64 large video (more 2 h)

    1. Problem with Export video to file.
    Crash about 55-75% to end.

    2. problem with linking (tuning) fit-file with clips

How to make downgrade to 2.8.0?
  • Virb Edit just updated itself for me...

Love it that there are no default overlays in the raw video now!

    JBADILLA,

I received the email you sent as well. Your find about the accented username is great, we should be able to get this fixed in the upcoming 2.9 maintenance release.

Thanks for your patience and your help!

I apologize for that. That's quite embarrassing. We'll get it fixed in 2.9.x.

    Thanks for letting us know.

I am sorry to hear export is giving you trouble. We will work hard to improve matters in 2.9.x.

What is the exact issue with aligning FIT files? We could use some more information to make sure we get it fixed.

If you want to go back to 2.8, uninstall 2.9, download and run the 2.8 installer from http://gawisp.com/perry/virb/.
  • In the incoming 2.9.x will be implemented power balance?

2.9.x will pretty much just be bug fixes.
