Elevation Graph / Grade

I used two clips to create a video. The clips were contiguous but split due to the 4 GB file size limit. I added an elevation graph to the video. When previewing the video in VIRB Edit, the graphs only showed the elevation profile for the clip that was displayed instead of the profile for the entire video. When the clips switched the elevation profile for the new clip appeared.
In the exported video, the graph only showed the elevation profile for the 1st clip. When the the clips switched in the exported video, the elevation text and a vertical line continued for a short time beyond the graph then disappeared.

Although the grade is relatively constant, at times the grade jumps around considerably. Is there a way to average the grade over a longer period of time to smooth out the gauge display.

I've tried using both the VIRB Elite FIT files and the FIT file from my Garmin 800 with the same results. The clips switch at the 20-21 second mark. The grade % jumping around is at the 50-55 sec mark.

Below is a link to a short test video to illustrate both of these problems.

Can you, or do you do any smoothing? Seems there will always be some fluctuations that may throw it off.

Attached is what the connect site displays for the same segment, and from the the same FIT files source (its zoomed in on this part). I don't see any obvious fluctuations there, so what are the connect team doing different, then you'd be doing in your VIRB edit app?

  • Has there been any resolution to this issue? The Edge 810/VIRB basic combination I use has the same problem making the gradient information from the data overlay useless. My 810 data display while riding is spot on.

Not that I know of, and I'd like to know whats being done about it. Topic seems to have gone quiet and I suspect this is more down to the fact this is isn't considered serious compared to other peoples problems with the program crashing etc :)

Stuff like this really kills whats otherwise a killer product. Going off topic a bit, I also hate the way the two devices never match up the files very well and its a pain in the rear to sync the data up. Just seems like the clock in the Virb should be synced with the Edge, and then sort of marker used... sorta like a digital clapperboard.

+1 - I'm also getting this behaviour, although I have no Edge at all - all my data is from a Virb Elite.

I simply go out on a ride with my cam, it goes over the 3.5 GB (roughly 23mins of footage) so the video files are split. I add all of the clips to Virb Edit project and if I watch the video inside Virb edit, I can see the graph changes as it moves from clip-to-clip:

    2nd clip:

If I export, the output mp4 file has the graph from the first clip and this doesn't change (i.e. the graph doesn't roll over when the file effectively is playing from 2nd & subsequent 'clips' )
