New Virb user - any help?

First thing I would suggest with your Virb's is to update them to the latest firmware (if you haven't already done so) and then Master Reset them. The reason I suggest that is I have a Virb Elite that started doing all sorts of strange things after a firmware upgrade and Master Resetting it resolved all the issues I was having.
Now, if you don't have the latest firmware on your Virb's, don't use Garmin Express as the previous page recommends, use Garmin Webupdater as it is WAY less temperamental when it comes to installing updates.

Onto your editing - does your computer meet these minimum requirements?

VIRB Edit will also update the device for you.

Windows VIRB Edit support mp3 files, and mp3 files only. Are your files in mp3 format, and not in a different format?

For your playback issues, what kind of computer are you using? And what format are you recording in? What resolution and frame rate?

My computer was new out of the box yesterday as it happens, although it is a laptop. I'm not much of a techno whiz, but pretty sure it meets the necessary requirements. 8GB RAM, 1TB memory, Intel Celeron and Intel HD graphics. I will try it plugged in however.

I've no idea about the frame rate and res, presumably they're settings to fiddle with on the camera?

I've done a quick edit of my inaugural use of the Virbs and the footage is fine once I've exported it and watched it back on Windows Media player. My gripe is;
1) When it exported, there were none of the gauges on screen
2) I can't access music. The files are in MPEG4 format,they play in both iTunes and Windows Media Player. With it being brand new, there obviously wasn't any on here initially, but even using my external hard drive, which has music on, it still wouldn't access the file properly. I really lost my head with this!
I hit the music tab in Virb edit, Add Music, this opens up the file box to find whichever record I want to use. So, I hit This PC > Music > iTunes > iTunes Media > Music > Breach (artist name) > Everything you never had (song title) > empty! When I select the song title, as far as I'm concerned, in any other instance this would be the file I'm selecting. If MP4 audio isn't compatible can anyone help with a method of converting tracks into MP3?

Edit: found an old mp3 track, works ok, but now I hear the sound from the Virb and the music? and can't trim the music to fit the video?

Other than these two issues, I'm happy with them so far. Although I will say, It would be nice to be able to insert pictures into the video that aren't screen grabs of the footage.

If you've any other advice for me, I'm all ears.

Try this open source app for audio file editing. I ran across the updated version a couple of days ago when I needed to convert a WAV file to mp3. It does not appear to import from video mp4 recordings directly.

What Intel graphics card? A lot of laptops come with low-end mobile graphics card. We'd like it to be an Intel HD 4000 or better. And you want to make sure the laptop is on external power, not on battery.

Yes, you can set that on the camera or via the mobile app. But if you didn't change it, you are probably recording 1080p at 30 frames per second.

1. We are working on a fix for that issue in 2.9. You should be to edit the video, go to the Overlays tab, 'Save as New Template' your current gauges and then they should export. We'll have that fixed in 2.9 though. I apologize for the trouble.

2. I don't think your iTunes songs are in mp3 format. It's on our roadmap to support iTunes format in a future version.

You can turn down the video volume in the edit tab so the music is easier to listen to.

More music options are planned, currently you cannot adjust when it plays. We definitely want to add that though.
