Virb Edit - Multiple problems

Latest version of Virb Edit, brand new computer (32 GB ram, SSD drive, Windows 7 64 bit).

I just got my Virb, and the camera is awesome. The main reason I bought the Virb is for the data overlays (Garmin Edge 810). Unfortunately while editing a single century ride, I've had constant issues that are ruining the experience.

The program crashes frequently (we're talking every 10 minutes of editing or so), and when I re-launch it often tells me that some clips are no longer available. When I try to browse to the clip, it tells me the clip does not match and won't let me import it.

After painstakingly syncing the GPS data to all the clips, if I edit a clip in the middle of the timeline then the GPS data on all subsequent clips does not remain in sync. It's a constant push-pull game that has me pulling my hair out.

When I go to sync GPS and zoom in, after panning and then click-dragging, the program wildly jumps and moves the map around so the point of interest is off-screen.

These are the main issues, but there are numerous other "minor" problems as well.

Like I said, I love the camera but this software is killing it for me. :(

After spending most of the day editing the video, I finally finished it. I exported the video, and all the painstaking work I did to sync the data to the video was for nothing. All the data was out of sync. This software is absolute bug-ridden garbage.

I'm having the same problem, up to the latest VE 2.8. I have a multi-clip video, I carefully GPS sync each clip, they all look fine when I play each clip, and then when I export, the syncs go out of whack. This is a bad bug, and I think it's been there for a while.

JohnStone and rschooler, sorry to hear about all the problems you are experiencing! I'd be very interested to see your export/playback logs. Follow the instructions at https://forums.garmin.com/showthread.php?159788-FAQ-Playback-and-Export-Issues for finding and sending your log files so I can track down and fix all these issues for you. Thanks in advance for your help
  • Hi Newbie here.

Not sure if I am in the correct Threat.

I have bought my Virb Elite a few month ago and from day one I have struggled to sync the speed to the actual throttle opening, I get it to sync at the beginning and then in the middle of a corner it would jump to 160km/h and then back. It looks like the GPS is way to slow to keep up with a fast moving motorcycle. Also the roll gauge is all over the place and gives reading from -180 to 90 in a split sec.

Any fix or help would be appreciated.

I'd like to take a look at an actual video with data to get a better idea what might be going wrong. Could you share a video, along with the gpx and fit file? You can get to the latter by going to a clip's properties, 'GPS Info' and then export the files.

You could use Dropbox or a similar service to host the files, and share them with me. (Via Personal Message is fine)

I tried it again with extra logging, and this time it went fine, with GPS sync intact and it completed successfully. Hmm...

There are so many problem with this program I can't believe this has been released at all. You want an export log from me? I guess I can do that, but what about all the other problems I mentioned? Today I was editing a video, and was syncing all the clips to GPS, when the red dot stopped appearing on the sync screen. Nothing I did would bring the dot back, so I closed the program and reopened it. EVERY SINGLE CLIP I'D SYNCED WAS OUT OF SYNC AGAIN.

Seriously, this is ridiculous. This program is not even alpha quality, and Garmin's otherwise fine camera is suffering for it. Absolutely shameful.

After a few more video edits, I'm pretty sure the video/GPS are not losing sync at the export, it's happening during the edit. Every time the program crashes, which is often, or needs to be restarted to correct a bug (like the GPS red dot bug mentioned above) all previous syncs are lost. Because manual syncs can take a VERY long time--particularly when there are many clips involved--losing all that work over and over again is extremely frustrating. For this reason alone the program is virtually useless for videos of any real length.

Adding to the list of bugs mentioned previously, the gauges often don't show up at export (I saw the "fix" in another thread). Also, what's up with all the text overlays showing up at once, one on top of the other, at the end of the videos? It's happened on every video I've managed to complete.

I'm not trying to pile on, but I'm irritated that the software is so buggy, especially after multiple releases. The GPS sync issue alone kills the program. I bought the Virb mainly for the gauge overlay features, and I'm feeling pretty cheated right now.

I am so unbelievably frustrated. Every time I try to edit a video--a process that should take 20 or 30 minutes given the simple editing tools available in Virb Edit--it takes hours upon hours. Every time the program crashes (often) or the red dot stop appearing on the GPS sync screen (also often), the program must be restarted. When the program restarts, all previous GPS syncs are lost! Do you know how frustrating this is when I have to go back and manually sync GPS to 30 clips, only to have it happen again, and again and again...

Is this program ever going to be fixed? Right now it's useless.
