Virb Edit shuts down - W7 / 64

Hi all, I like my new Virb Elite so far, and would like to use the dedicated editing program before having to resort to searching for an alternative, but it doesn't run on my pc.

Virb camera talks to my computer, once I found I had to ram the connector in much harder..

Files are accessible and WMP 11 will play them.

Virb Edit finds and imports the files :)

Virb Edit won't play the files - black rectangle, map on top, no sound, 0.0 play numbers in the time bar at the bottom. :(

Ok, I can play them with something else. But.

Virb edit 2.8.0 stops working & Windows shuts it down, the moment I try to edit a video. I can "create video" but do nothing with it.

Windows 7 home premium 64bit, SP1
2.8 GHz AMD Athlon II X2 220
4GB RAM 500GB HD
ATI Radeon3000 1919MB memory - shared hypermemory is used.
checked the .net version via regedit 4.5.1
Running Norton internet security- tried turning off or excluding the Garmin (and all!) files from Sonar/auto protect.
The resource monitor says about half of the physical memory is in use.

I found the hidden log folder, turned on extra logging, ran through the fault sequence, but no log file appeared.
I don't need to put lots of gauges and features on my videos if my system isn't up to it, but I would at least like to get the program going and maybe tie the gps stuff to it.

Is there anything else I should be looking up?
Thanks, JJ.

PS video drivers updated to latest available.
