Time and distance gauges inconsistently reset to zero on some clips

I am running the latest 2.8.0.0 VIRB Edit software.

I took a number of clips today, and have put them together as a sequence. All clips have GPS data.

I have selected various gauges and all work well, except I am seeing odd behaviour with the 'time' and 'distance' values. Mostly, they show the value since the beginning of the ride. However, for some clips (seemingly random ones) the time and distance show values just for the clip - i.e. they start at zero and build during the clip. Things do sort themselves out and subsequently the correct values from the start of the ride are displayed again. The problem then recurs on a further clip or two - for no apparent reason.

Is there any explanation for this behaviour, and is there anything that I can do to correct the values on the clips where they are wrong?

Incidentally, I am leaving the VIRB on for all the time on the ride, and then recording clips either with the remote on my Edge 800, or with the slider on the VIRB. The full GPS track shows as complete and correct.

The VIRB creates a GPX file for each clip you record, and a FIT file for the whole time the VIRB is on.

We use the FIT file for total distance and elapsed time. You can right-click on each clip, hit properties and go to the GPS Info tab to find out if a FIT file is properly attached. (The grey track is the FIT, the black track the GPX).

Sounds like some of your clips are missing that connection? Does that at least explain the randomness?

If the FIT connection is missing, the next step would be trying to find out why that is. Did you do anything special with those clips?
  • I have noticed something similar.
Generally I will record an entire 2 hr bike ride and take around six 10-15 sec clips and put together for you-tube/facebook posting.
I have noticed that often the data is lost between clips, it reappears after 3-4 secs.
