Strange export failure

I recently shot some footage with my Virb Elite facing forward and my Virb facing rearward. I inserted the required overlays on the Virb Elite footage (filesize 3.53Gb, 1080P, 25FPS) and it exported fine.
I then edited the Virb footage with no sound and no overlays, with the intention of inserting it (Picture in Picture).
Before export the footage showed a file size of 3.53Gb (1080P 25FPS), the file exported really quickly (30seconds) and wouldn't play, the file size in Windows Explorer showed as about 1.9Gb.
I changed the Resolution to 960P and the file exported fine.
Any ideas why one file would export and the other wouldn't, if anything I'd expect the footage with the overlays to be the one giving problems.

If you don't make changes to your video, VIRB Edit doesn't need to decode and re-encode the footage. So it should be a lot faster to export.

As to why it didn't work, I am not sure. Can you reproduce this with any unedited 1080p PAL 25 FPS video from your Basic VIRB? Which OS are you using, Win 7, 8 or 8.1?

I'm using Win 8.1, anyway it appears to be exporting correctly (slower) with the new 2.8 version of Virb Edit.

Edit: The file exported fine in the new version of Virb Edit.
