Syncing gps Data between clips?

Hey folks its been awhile.

Forgive me if this has been answered before but I just upgraded to the latest VirbEDIT 2.7.1.0 and I made a video but of about 25 mins

One file is 24 mins and the other is the last min or so. How can I get the distance and time to continue between the clips instead of resetting when it starts the 2nd clip?

I don't know if its something already been covered or something simple I haven't done

thanks

p.s. Using the Virb Elite's gps track but i have my garmin edge 800 data as well but whole reason i got the Elite was so I didn't have to mess about with syncing the GPS data.

I suppose you were splitting your file because your working with Win7.
Look at this post (and the movie) https://forums.garmin.com/showthread.php?75263-How-To&p=382929#post382929
You need the second clip to start with the first second of the first clip.
If you want a track in the first clip to continue to where the second clip ends, you need the first clip to end with last second of the second clip.

How did you import the videos into VIRB Edit? If you imported them directly from the VIRB we should have copied the underlying FIT file that has data for the whole 25 minutes and you should be getting continuous graphs.

    This is what should work:

    1. Delete the 2 clips from VIRB Edit (and from disk, if they are still on the VIRB).
    2. Connect the VIRB Elite, use 'Import Selection', pick the two clips.
    3. Create a video with these 2 clips. You should see continuous time and distance in the video.

    @Falagar

I think what BBB meant (and I hope he will correct me if I am mistaken) was that he cannot *export* a single clip (possibly because of the export file size limitation in VE on Win 7), and has had to export 2 video movies; in the second exported movie, the total time and distance values reset to zero. I have also experienced this issue - and it is annoying (to say the least!)
Of course in VE we can *watch* complete videos comprising several individual clips (together with their associated data) - which is an improvement over some previous versions of VE, where we couldn't even watch our own videos.

Given that Windows 7 users cannot export movies of more than 4Gb, and you guys *KNEW* that this limitation exists, I cannot understand why this functionality was not added to VE from the beginning, as a workaround to this limitation; we could export our longer movies in parts, and just join them together afterwards into one big video - and have continuous data in the joined video.

Doesn't seem exactly like rocket-science to me.....

That's not how I read it, but hopefully he can clear it up. :)

No news on the 4GB limit on W7, unfortunately.

ok Back to this little thread

I just made a timelapse video of a ride about 22miles.

I stopped the ride about 5 miles in without turning anything off, then I restarted and continued.

After 11 or so miles I turned off the VirbElite as I was having a long break. Turned back on and continued my ride.

When I imported the clips into VirbEdit and the first 2 clips and distance continue on without problem, but the 3rd clip distance resets to zero but the "track" is the whole ride.

Anyway to get the distance to continue on though out so I get the total distance.

Also noticed that my speed data was jumping alot in the first clip (145mph) but settled down for after about 30 seconds into my timelapse (so actual time was probably about 20mins) I'm using a cadence & speed sensor and it pairs up but these kinds of readings I'm guessing it dropped and was taking speed from gps instead but picked it up later on

Hope I haven't confused as its sometimes hard to explain issues at times.
  • If the track from the VIRB is the only track you have, you're out of luck. Once you turn it off, the distance/duration in VIRB Edit reset, probably because it's created another fit file. If you have the track from another device, then you can easily replace the track from the VIRB with the track from another device. I do that all the time for just this reason (turning the camera off) with the track from my Edge 800.

Ok thanks I kina figured that as soon as I turned it of and saw it saving the GPS data etc. All in the learning process :)
  • Well, if you want to try heroic measures, you can see if you can find some way of merging either the .fits or the .gpxs from the VIRB into a single file and see if VIRB Edit will accept it. (You could try, for example, putting together the video, exporting it, and then see if VIRB Edit will accept the single .gpx it will create with the exported video file as a replacement in the original project.) I'm not sure whether it will be happy with big time gaps in the file, though. I've always had another device recording, so I've never had to try.
