Playback Issues

It appears after searching this forum I am not the only one having issues with jerky playback. The only way to get it to playback smoothly is to remove the card and plug it directly into the PC, which i a pain in the butt. This also appears to be an ongoing problem that I can't believe Garmin hasn't addressed...at least I can't find a resolution. Am I missing something or is this just another one of Garmin's issues that they just shrug their shoulders?

I am not sure I understand this correctly. Are you talking about playing back videos from the VIRB directly without importing into VIRB Edit?

If you use VIRB Edit to import, the videos will be copied to your hard-drive and it shouldn't matter if you use the card directly, or the VIRB.

That's correct. Viewing directly from the Virb. I get 2 hours a day of video and don't need to have all that on my hard drive or have to go back and delete it all. This should not have to be viewed on Edit only. It's just an MP4 video.

Mmh, this works for me on my machine. Your USB connection must be very slow when this doesn't work.

Did you try a different USB connector? Different cable? Sounds like there might be something wrong with the connection.

VIRB does connect with USB 2.0 only, but that should be plenty of throughput to play back the video.

    Hi,

i've just got a new virb elite and i have imported a video from the virb into virb edit but when i attempt playback its really jerky. i assume this would have copied the file to my pc when doing the import right?

    regards,

    lee.

VIRB Edit should have copied the file to your computer when you imported it.

The jerky playback sounds like your PC isn't up to the task of running VIRB Edit. Does it fulfill the minimum requirements?

How about plugging the Virb into a TV via HDMI and viewing the footage that way?
  • I also have this jerky problem, however my computer is up to requirements and the video is fine if I watch it in media player, however that means I can't have all the overlays which was the point in buying the product!

I just received my Virb yesterday and downloaded the Garmin Edit software soon after and I am having the exact same problem. My computer more than meets the minimum requirements. Play back is jerky at best. Varies from play back to play back of the same video. If I pause it for a few seconds and restart it will be better for a few seconds (as if it is buffering) but not good enough to do any editing. If I play back through any other media player there are no issues. Any ideas?

Could you give me the specs for your computer if playback is jerky?

Maybe we can secure a similar machine for testing in our offices to diagnose the issue.
