What I'd do is remove your current database and start over. The database is at C:\Users\{USERNAME}\AppData\Roaming\Garmin\VIRB Edit\Database. Delete or rename that folder.

Then try VIRB Edit 2.8. We hope to have this issue fixed in that version.

Please let us know if we haven't. With your description this should be fairly easy to reproduce and fix for 2.9.

    Thank you for your patience.

I've removed the database and imported again with the same result. I then removed the database again, downloaded 2.8 and, same result. Finally, I loaded 2.8 on a different/new computer and again, same result.

Some additional information, I loaded the gpx files into basecamp, and each file clearly specifies the correct coordinating subfolder for each video. I'm thinking (back in edit) whatever query is driving the import & file organization is ignoring the subfolder destination information which is why I only see as many tracks generated as the highest root number of videos in my import.

Looking forward to any progress on this.

Thank you for checking this in 2.8.

I just tried to reproduce this, and can confirm that there is an issue when we have the same file names in different DCIM folders.

We'll get that fixed in 2.9.

Thanks again for following up, and I apologize for the trouble. Your diligence in finding the root cause was very helpful.

...... I just tried to reproduce this, and can confirm that there is an issue when we have the same file names in different DCIM folders.

Perhaps you could suggest to your software team to ask the hardware team to fix it in the VIRB itself and stop producing the duplicate numbers, rather than fixing VIRB Edit to work with the duplicates.

Surely Garmin must be the only "camera manufacturer" to NOT use sequential numbers for every image file (and hence avoid duplicates).

I'm sure anyone NOT using VIRB Edit for video editing would find the duplicate numbers troublesome.

Thanks - keep up the great work.

Good point. I did bring it up with the device guys and they are investigating as well. I am just trying to make sure my team is doing its part in alleviating the issue. :)

    Thanks again.

There has LONG been the suggestion of simply naming ALL files (video, data and image) with the filename of 'Date Time' (in 'YYMMDD HHMMSS' format) - voila! **Guaranteed** no more duplicate names. No matter the number of folders / subfolders, etc on the Virb. Also, Virb Edit should download ALL files from the Virb into folders & subfolders named (successively) by year, then month, then date.

Solves other problems as well, as explained in previous posts. Seems to work fine with your other devices; strange they decided to re-invent the wheel for the Virb - and got it wrong......

Still not been implemented for the Virb. It's almost as if they don't WANT to fix these problems; I mean, how difficult could it *possibly* be to fix this in the Virb firmware & Virb Edit..? :(
