Data overlay glitch at transition points in 2.6.2

On a recent video I am pulling together I noticed a glitch where at the transition point from one clip to the next the data overlay momentarily reverts back to the initial values for that clip then to the correct point on the new clip. I will have to check other video's I've compiled to see if it exists there as well(I suspect it does) I only noticed this as my last clip was very short and the only reference point I have for syncing the data to the video is the transition point. I checked and I get this same error at each transition point within this video.

As in a transition there not only are two clips but there are also two GPS data-sets present.
I think this causes the behavier.
Maybe the developers could look at this.

BTW transitions make your video shorter, the clips will overlap the time of the duration.
During this time, showing the data of both video's would be not so nice.
  • Most of my videos are all of one continuous event, due to memory issues the videos get saved off as multiple clips of about 23-24mins long. I have 1 .fit file to overlay but need to overlay with each clip individually. I am not using any added transitions just the normal step point from one clip to the next. What I'm seeing is at the point where one ends and the other begins the data overlays are momentarily reverting to the sync point from the first of the 2 clips(maybe 1/2s) then to the sync for the second clip.

I usually have about 3-4 clips to merge and overlay data with and need to adjust each independently of each other. No added transitions blends etc just multiple contiguous clips and 1 .fit file. There is a step at the point of transition from clip1-clip2 clip2-clip3 etc.

I may try removing and re-importing/overlaying my .fit file, I had one prior instance where the transition from one clip to the next caused the distance to revert to 0 for the duration of a clip and then return to the correct value on the following clip (in version 2.6.1) removing and re-importing the .fit file fixed the issue in that instance.
  • Another situation where exporting as 1 file before applying the overlay could fix the issue, I may have to do this despite the added processing time. I'm hoping this is something that might be correctable through further development of the software.
  • Exporting as 1 clip and re-importing does not work. I cannot get the new merged file to import into virb edit. Size is roughly 20Gb, I haven't read through enough other threads to know if there is a size limit but guess this may be the case.

I will try from scratch again, if I get the same glitch I will export a short clip showing what I am seeing and post here.

In Win7 there is a 3.5GB limit, Win8 and MAC shouldn't have any problems (I'm told).
As I'm working with Win7 I only can export (and import) video of max 3.5GB.

If you don't work with Win7:
VIRB Edit wants a specific .mp4 format for it's import files.
Maybe converting will do the trick.
Look here on how to convert video to the .MP4 that VIRB Edit accepts. https://forums.garmin.com/showthread.php?75263-How-To&p=378295#post378295

BTW: Your signature shows a link, but clicking on it doesn't work for me.
Copy and paste of the link brings me to: http://My Youtube Channel so that doesn't work either.
Copy and paste of the text does work.
  • I'm working in Win 8, I have not had any issue with import or export previously, though my imports are usually limited to the std cutoff size which I think is about 4Gb, but have exported some very large files. The file should be MP4 as I merged and exported from virb edit without my overlays to remove the glitch at the transitions and simplify the syncing of the .fit with my video. I'm at work now so I cant really do much as far as debugging this issue until tonight.

Thanks for pointing out the error in my sig, looks like I swapped the address and title. should be fixed now.

    Your signature works now:)

In the beginning VIRB Edit would not import the files it had exported, don't know why, but it wouldn't.
I have just tested it with a small clip it seems to work now.
Maybe converting it will work but I doubt it as importing of a small clip worked.
However I expect exporting, converting, importing and exporting again can't be good for the quality of the video.

I've had a look at "Sliter Rd Climb". Make me tired only looking at it, quite a climb.
I would have gone walking, or had taken my motorbike.:)
  • I think the issue is in the preview within virb edit.I'm going to export and review the finished video to see if the glitch is gone.

I started recording some of the local climbs between races. Finding more ways to use the camera, I finally used 120FPS at a local rocket launch, I wish I could do better than 720 at 120FPS the rockets came out looking a little fuzzy due to the wide angle and resolution.
  • Looks like its not just the preview, exported the video, the last review looked ok and didnt show a glitch at any point. export shows the glitch at each transition. Going to upload the finished product to youtube anyways and save the files in case this gets resolved. Glitches occur at 21:55,45:52, and 1:09:49.

Will be the 09AUG14 race when it finishes uploading.
