Last weekend I went mountain biking with my Virb Elite. Usually I switch it on and use the 'record while moving' option; but this time I specifically did not want any breaks in the recording - moving or not - so I used the sliding 'Rec' button instead. As usual, I activated the recording a minimum of about 30 seconds before I started moving, to allow it time to find the sensors (heart-rate and speed / cadence), as well as GPS coordinates.
However, when I came to review the footage with a video overlay showing things like track, speed, cadence, etc - it was obviously VERY 'un-synched' - to the extent that I cannot tell if the data matches the clip, or is from a different clip. All clips I recorded during the weekend are like this - about 20 of them, or so.
I was in a forested area, high in the mountains. The track and distance looks more or less correct - but in many places it is missing altogether, as if GPS signal was lost completely (even though I don't see how this could be the case - I was on top of a mountain after all, there were no tunnels or anything of that nature). Direction, speed and cadence data has definite problems (I cannot tell if HR info is OK or not). The camera is mounted on my helmet.
My Edge 810, mounted on my handlebars, shows no such 'gaps' in signal - neither from the sensors, nor from the GPS signal. The video itself looks fine - it does not appear to have any 'gaps'. I *only* use Virb Edit to download files to my computer from my Virb Elite.
Question 1: Assuming the datafiles have been 'mixed up' - how can this have happened? Is there anything a user can do to prevent this?
Question 2: Assuming the data in the files has been lost - why could this have happened?
Question 3: Because Virb Edit doesn't separate video clips into different folders based on date, I now have about 300+ Gb of clips in over 250 individual video files - all in ONE big folder. How can I verify that a particular data file matches a particular video clip, in Virb Edit? Are some kind of identical control codes / serial numbers embedded in all files so they can be positively matched to each other?
Question 4: How exactly does one go about using the data files recorded by my Edge 810 in the videos recorded by my Virb Elite? I have never attempted anything like this before, I know absolutely nothing about it. Is there a step-by-step guide ('for dummies'!) anywhere?
