VIRB Edit 2.6.1 Beta On a Windows Tablet?

This morning my Google Nexus 7 did me a great favour - it died. This is the second time it's happened where it seems to lose its OS, and stops booting.

Well I've just about had it with that, since it's got to go back to ASUS for repair, so today I started looking for alternatives and found a very nice little ACER ICONIA W3-810-1666 32GB 8.1" TABLET for $150. This device runs the Windows 8 OS, so I might be able to run Win Virb Edit, but more importantly, I can take the Micro SD card out of the Virb and stick it into this device and play the videos right on the screen, to a tv with HDMI input, or upload them directly from the Iconia to the web.

I never even knew I wanted to do that, and now I couldn't imagine living without it!

Also, I found this 64 Gb Micro SD card for $29.99 at a place called Canada Computers. I have tested the card already, doing a number of recordings at 1080p and it's fast enough. Worked well.

Wish me luck!
  • Well isn't that interesting... the Beta runs on this device, though I have the same problem some others have with no video in VE.

I am able to "Create Video" and trim video, etc, but of course I can't see what I'm trimming. I am able to export to YouTube though, so I'll get to see what I've done later

Edit: The video was output from VE and uploaded to Youtube but there's nothing there but a black screen with gauges on it.

Bit of a waste of time, but I needed to know if this would work.

The answer seems to be no, at this point.

Did you run 2.5.1 or the 2.6 Beta? If you haven't tried the Beta, give it a shot.
  • It was the Beta. Just upgrading my tablet to Windows 8.1 so I'll see if that makes a difference.

I missed the gigantic bold title where it stated that. I apologize.

I doubt 8.1 will make a difference, but upgrading to 8.1 is a good idea regardless.

That tablet might just have a graphics card that's a bit too weak to cope with VIRB Edit.
  • You're probably right about the graphics card. 8.1 made no difference to the video in VE Beta 2.6.1. I looked at the options in the Graphics software and there wasn't much I could do to change settings.

Not a problem; I was just curious. I can still upload video and pictures from the sd card to the web via the Iconia.

I could end up filling this poor little 32 Gb drive very quickly if I loaded a day's worth of Virb videos. Just yesterday I recorded 32 Gb of 1080p video.

I remember the days when I thought a 40Gb hard drive was all I could possibly ever need in a computer. (I also remember 360k floppies, and 10 megabyte drives too, but that is SO long ago.)
