Maximum speed on gauge

I was under the impression that the maximum speed displayed on the speed gauge was based on the maximum speed contained in the .gpx file (is the .gpx file still used or is the .fit file now being being used?)

Did a MTB race yesterday and top speed was around 40kph but the speed gauge has configured itself to display a maximum speed of 250kph?

Any suggestions or is this a regression in Virb Edit 2.5.1?

cheers
Mike

No, earlier this was also a problem. But I can't remember if it was corrected in some inbetween versions.

    Bad GPS Fix?

I've also noticed this behaviour with my Virb Elite, which is mounted on my cycling helmet.

Watching the footage on my PC, the data shows that I am cycling at various speeds of up to 230km/h for the first 10 to 20 seconds of the clip, then it seems to have calibrated itself properly / got a better GPS fix, and my speed approaches real-world accuracy (up to about 35km/h). I have tried to work around this problem by simply starting to record for 20 seconds or so before I actually start to ride, and chopping off the first 10 to 20 seconds of the start of the clip. Then the gauges show a more-realistic maximum of 60 to 70km/h.

At the same time, I have noticed that in some clips (but not all) which exhibit this problem, even though I am cycling in a straight line along a perfectly straight road, the GPS track shows that I am winding from side to side - like a snake. If it was accurate, this would mean that I am cycling *through* the houses on each side of the road, first on one side, then on the other.

This is strange - because my Edge 810 (which is mounted on my handlebars) does not exhibit the same problem; and I do not accept that the GPS signal will degrade SO much in the distance between my helmet and handlebars.....

Is there any way to manually limit the maximum values a gauge can show?

As far a I know you can't set the maximum of a gauge to a lower value.
There is a trick to get a higher maximum, not a lower.
The trick is to add some points in front of your track manually. The speed between these points can be the highter value.
After exporting you can trim this second off.
