VIRB EDIT won't upload or export - app crashes or hangs

I've been editing my first video, made up of a large number of clips that have been edited. I got the video down to about 45 minutes, and have been reducing it without success to 20 minutes. Every time I try to export or upload the video to YouTube the application either hangs, does nothing (in the case of export) or crashes. I can add a few raw video clips totalling about 20 minutes and they export fine so I wonder if the issue is due to the many edits I've performed?

Its a real pain, I've spent hours struggling with the app to edit the clips and get a finished article, but now I can do nothing with it.

Any advice?

I'm using Windows 7, i920 processor with 24GB of memory. Lots of memory and hard drive space available.

    ExportLog shows this:

I'm also having this issue... I can't upload or export anything without VIRB Edit crashing.

I can live with the "there was an error playing the video" bug, although annoying, but this essentially breaks the program for me. I hope this issue is acknowledged and that people are hopefully working on it.

I've done alot of messing around, most of it very frustrating, including updating all my drivers, anti-virus on/off, everything I could think of and none of it worked.

However, I did manage to get a couple videos to export/upload and the only difference between the ones the will export/upload and the ones that wont seems to be the number of 'edits' or 'cuts' in the video.

I was trying trim down a 60 minute ride into 15 minutes of video and it involved 15 - 20 'cuts' and it will not export or upload no matter what I do. I have another clip that was a 30 minute ride and I trimmed that down to 15 minutes using only 4 - 5 'cuts' and it will export/upload. Both videos in the same quality and trimmed down to the same final length/file size but the one with lots of 'cuts' crashes every time and the other one doesn't.
  • also having same sh#t. no upload or export. Not eve nfrom a 10min movie  use version 2.5.1.
Garmin, please fix it. I buy a 400EURO device and it does not work..............

    I apologize for the trouble.

Unfortunately there is not much help I can offer other than pointing out that we have fixed a lot of issues in 2.6, including playback, export and out-of-memory issues (which it what it sounds like you are running into).

2.6 should be out in a little while.

Same problems that I'm having, pretty disappointing I haven't done much other than basic edits, other than use another app and drop the gauges there's nothing I can do - when you say a little while - can you give a date?

It's company policy to not give release estimates, so I was being purposefully vague. I apologize.
  • For example: I import two smal video's of 2 minutes. One at the start of my roundtrip of 1 hour and one at the end. If i edit this into 1 movie of 3 minutes in total that on the overlay I will only see the GPS data from the remaining left over video.
If I creat a movie or upload to YouTube this goes fine. However if i import the .GPX file from my Garmin Edge 810 and place this in the same movie then i get a nice Overlay with the whole roundtrip. So fare so good. If I try to upload this movie to YouTube or create a movie it both failt. So i think the creation of a movie failt when I have at some parts GPS data without movie. Does my theory make sense? Hope you gous can fix this in the next release. I want to view my whole roundtrip in the overlay. Only a few dots do not make sense.
    Thanks

I *may* have a workaround for this, but haven't finished yet (its takes a while). I have about 2.5 hours of video, so I made 8 videos each with up to 20mins video, and added the dashboard and exported. Simply adding the video clips without further editing, adding the dashboard and exporting seems to work fine. I have then added these 8x20min video clips to a single movie in Microsoft Movie Maker...next step is to edit within Movie Make.

The down side is that each export takes quite a while, and even importing into Movie Maker takes a while too. Of course the map overlay doesn't show the entire course either, just the course covered in the 20mins clip.

I sure hope version 2.6 fixes this problem.

I'm not sure where the fix is at but add me to those who are frustrated by this. Spent a lot of time editing footage and at the end, it Virb Edit just crashes when I Export.
Please fix this as this makes the software practically useless for me. Having the sensor data integrated with the video is what sold me to Virb compared to the competition.
But if editing is this much painful, I'm not sure now if I actually made the right decision :(
